I'm loving this from the very first sentense. Your plot is substantial, your style flows easily and in all the whole thing is a joy to read - much better than average.

O.K. I know this is a silly point--but I LOVE Dumbledore's Christmas robes. ;-)
And Slytherin!McGonagall maneuvering Snape into replying to Harry.
The exchange of letter between Snape and Harry is also one of my favorite fanfiction occurrences. And then you turn the "fun" around to show us how deep the committment is actually growing between the two.
Knowing what comes later, this chapter is also bittersweet.
Ack! Sorry, I guess I couldn't use the little carets I did offset the quote. Here is the text I quoted in the previous review:
“Understand what, Potter?” Snape asked matching Harry’s tone. “Loneliness? Or the weight of a burden that can’t be shared?”
Harry stood perfectly still, his anger giving way to a strange sort of fear. Snape knew what he was feeling. More than that, he understood. Harry couldn’t have said why exactly, but he found that horribly disturbing.
This is one of my favorite exchanges in the whole story.
It is interesting to me reading this again to see how much this chapter sets up what you are doing in the sequel with Snape's mind--the greyness and loneliness of his memories.
I love Ron and Hermione in this chapter and how you use their relationship to illustrate Harry's aloneness with his visions and prophecy.
It's also neat how little of your vision of Snape was shafted by HBP.

With this chapter, we get another look at what Harry is going through and we see protective!Snape who has to help even when he hates a student, and who seems to be the only one to figure out just how bad it is getting for Harry.
I love how Dumbledore manipulates both Harry and Snape into doing what they both need.
And the first occlumency lesson between Snape and Harry is wonderful. "You didn't kill them. He did." So much power for Harry in just a few words.
The escalation of the animosity between Snape and Harry in this chapter is chillingly detailed. The aftermath of the potion's class was terrible and will be a lot for Harry to get over. The duel with Snape clearly shows just how much these two despise each other at this point, and was one of my more memorable scenes in fanfiction at the time I first read it. I remember remembering the scene and then trying to remember what story I had read it in and looking for it again. This was back when you were originally posting chapter-by-chapter on Sugarquill.

Oooh, I'm very excited to see this posted here. I read it originally at the Sugar Quill. Great work.
I'm so glad to see you posting this here. This story is in my Top 10 of Snape and Harry fics -- maybe top 5. Thanks so much for posting here. I re-read this story periodically and will find it very nice to read here. At this point, yours were the only stories I was reading on the other site.
And so the story starts off with a bang. Harry's visions are chilling, and his reactions so well described. Each canon character who makes an appearance just seems so much like themselves. I must admit to loving the idea of cat!McGonagall scratching LV's face along with Mr. Tibbles.
