I really enjoyed this chapter! The dialogue between Harry and Snape is great.

I love how they barter questions back and forth, it's a way for them to get to know one another without actually admitting that they want to know each other.

I also liked how Harry pointed out that Snape really never gave him much of a chance to learn Occlumency correctly. Maybe it'll hit home with the Potions professor.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! I hope you continue to read & enjoy!

Amusing. There finnally comes some improvement on the relationship between those two. Harry's really cute in this chapter. Update soon.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review!  Yes, improvement is looming...slow but steady! :)

I don't know why it is, but I always love stories where Harry tells Snape that the Sorting Hat wanted to put him in Slytherin. I really don't know why. Of course, in many cases Harry is eager to tell Snape that he could have been put in Slytherin, in order to shock him or cause Snape to reevaluate him. However, I must say that I like your version of telling Snape about Slytherin much better! I think it is much more in character of Harry to quickly defend his right to be in Gryffindor. Ha ha. Harry really should think more about what he wants to say before blurting out more information than he wants to reveal. This is Snape, of course he is going to catch on to and interpret correctly, everything that you say! lol.

And now my two favorite parts of the chapter!
Part one: Yes, sir,” Harry answered automatically, picking up the book. May as well quit while he was ahead. He could celebrate later that Snape had forgotten he had another turn left–

“Oh, and Potter?” Snape interrupted his thoughts, “My round of questions shall be considered delayed, rather than forfeited. I fully intend to collect, I assure you.”

LOVED IT!!!! Just when Harry thought that he had won the battle, and outsmarted Snape...! Perfect!

    And number two:
“If you are in such dire need of a break, go to the laboratory and begin your puffer-fish sorting. I’ll expect you back in fifteen minutes to continue your reading.”

    “Er…no thanks. I’m at a…really good spot.”

I started laughing incontrollably at that part! Terrific dialogue, and it was interesting to finally get some answers out of Snape! I definitely can't wait for the next chapter! Thanks for giving me a well written story to look forward to all of the time!

    Author's Response:

I am so in LOVE with long reviews!  THANK YOU!!!

Yes, I love Snape finding out about the sorting hat too, but I've always believed that Harry wouldn't volunteer the information willingly.  Really, I don't think Harry yet cares too much what Snape thinks of him since he doesn't respect the man's views on anything else...so volunteering the information in order to get Snape to reevaluate him isn't something I see Harry doing.  And he's proud of being a Gryffindor.  He wouldn't want to be anything else.

So glad you liked those parts of the fic!  They were fun to write.  The most fun thing to hear from reviewers is that something in the story made them laugh.  It makes me smile...so thank you for making me smile! :)

Another amusing chapter! I do love Snape's oh-so-succinct answers, especially in contrast to Harry's tendency to ramble. "How well do you know the Malfoys?" "Well." Fantastic! I can just *feel* Harry's frustration trying to get any information at all out of the man. The out-of-the blue "legilimency" was priceless!

I love how Snape seems to be a bit amused at Harry's attempts at being Slytherin, and Harry wondering if Snape was Draco's Sirius was a cute touch.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review, bluebird88!  I'm glad you liked it - those bits you commented on were so fun to write! :)

Oh, goodie. The return of 20 Questions. You made good use of this device again, and even though Harry and Severus are still as testy as ever, they are gaining a better understanding of the other. And we wouldn't want to make it too easy for Severus, now would we? He'd get bored. ;-)

Author's Response: Thank you for the review, sunsethill!  And yes, making it too easy for Snape would be boring for both him and for us. ;)

    Oh, what a delicious chapter.

I love well-written mind games between Harry and Snape, and this one was great.

I like how Snape's interest in Harry is increasing, even though he'd poison himself before admitting it. And I like how you betray that interest in little gestures, like when his lips barely twitch in amusement at Harry's rather Slytherin reasoning. Snape has always struck me as someone who loves puzzles, and I think that after his slowness at understanding how horrible Harry's life was at the Dursleys, he seems like he's finally looking past his big Harry Potter blind spot and taking it as a challenge to figure out other things about the boy. Sort of like the way he'd study a mysterious potions ingredient :)

It was great how you wrote both Harry's Gryffindor and Slytherin sides here - he charges into a conversation with Snape, but then uses some cunning in unsettling the other man and getting some interesting info out of him. Though I don't think he's close to being able to out-Slytherin Snape. But he can always try...

Interesting development with Draco. It has the potential for a lot of intrigue and maybe a future alliance even, if Draco does change sides (I can't really see him and Harry being true friends, but I could see them as making an alliance under certain circumstances).

It was pretty heart-breaking reading Harry's thoughts about how Draco has a family and godfather, and Harry doesn't, even though Harry's relationships were always based on love; it seems Snape was trying to figure out Harry's thoughts at that point, but I don't think he could've guessed, seeing as for all his smarts and cunning he's pretty emotionally stunted. And that's probably true of Draco too - he might have family, but what values have they given him? At least Harry, for all his horrible upbringing, is still a genuinely decent person.

I hope you update as soon as you can.

    Author's Response:

Ooh, I LOVE long reviews like this one! They make chocolate and caramel pale in comparison!

You really have thought through the story a lot, which is really thrilling to hear. It also reassures me that what I am trying to get across is what is actually getting across. :)

The part about Harry's Slytherin vs. Gryffindor traits, especially, is right on. I see Harry as having quite the capability for cunning & being sneaky, but even when he lets those sides show, they're colored with his Gryffindor courage & impulsiveness. He'd have a hard time matching Snape's pure Slytherin-ness. Doesn't mean he won't try though... ;)

Also love your thoughts re: Harry's & Draco's families & values. Right on!

Mint chocolate (for variety's sake) to the author of this wonderful story! I don't have a ton of comments to make, but I do like this game between Severus and Harry about questions. I do believe it's used rather uniquely in this story. Keep up the great work!

    Author's Response:

Yum...mint. I think that's my first. Gosh, do you know I've gotten quite the sweet tooth ever since I started asking for candies and actually got them in return? ;)

    Thank you for the review!

Its the mark of an excellent author when you read really long chapters and find yourself hanging waiting for the next. Its also the mark of very annoying authors to give us really long chapters that leave us with even more questions! :p I await the next chapter and hope its SOON. I don't normally review but I am hoping enough will entice you to give us the next part quickly.

    Author's Response:

Aw!  Did you call me excellent and annoying in the same review?  At least you said the excellent one first to soften me up!  LOL! :)

I have potentially a lot to get into the next chapter, so it may be one of my longest yet.  Which is excellent for you because you get a long chapter, but is annoying for you because it might take me a little longer to post.  Anyway, I'll get to it now I know you're waiting on it!!!

    Thanks for the review!

    I. Love. This. Story. The question-for-a-question game they play is so brilliant. I loved it in the earlier chapter and I thought it was even better in this one. I wasn't expecting Snape to ask about the polyjuice potion, but of course he'd ask something like that, because well...he's Snape. lol. I think my favorite part was definitely when Snape finally answered Harry's question about Legilimency being more difficult to learn than Occlumency. I love how he acts so indifferent towards Harry, but finally gives in and answers his question...you know he's just dying to teach him Occlumency...if Harry would be willing to learn...and keep his mouth shut. lol. Hmmm...maybe he will... Will he?!

Excellent job with this chapter and the whole story in general. I'm enjoying it so much and can't wait for the next update!

    Author's Response:

    I. Love. Your. Review. ;)  It's so nice to hear all the specific things you liked!  Yeah, I liked that he answered Harry's question, too.

Hmm...the question: Will Snape teach Harry Occlumency?  Well...Dumbledore essentially left the decision up to Snape, and Snape is still refusing, which is why Dumbledore is taking over.  The only way our two favorite characters would join up for those infamous lessons again is if Snape changed his mind.  So...will he?  You know I can't answer that!  ;)
