i don't think i breathed once between when severus and draco first went back to the infirmary until the end of the chapter. intense. loved it.
Aaahhh! Poor Snape is walking a very thin line, isn't he? One misstep can bring everything crashing down around him. And not only with Harry, but with Draco, too. I'm glad Harry is finally beginning to realize that he won't be sent back to the Dursley's. I'm sure he will still have a few setbacks, but at least he is on the right path.
I'm wondering if we will see Lucius' reaction to this bit of mischief. I'd like to see Snape stand up to Lucius Malfoy, for both Harry's and Draco's sake. That would do them both a world of good.
Anyway, looking forward to the next update. Thanks...

This story is fantastic!!! I think Madame Ponfrey should be made to see what a berk she is--to be so concerned about Draco yet not know how Harry would react to her words. Nice touch there. It shows you have a deep understanding of your characters to have set that up so skillfully. Not many would have latched on to how simple, everyday words could be so traumatically interpreted by Harry. Bravo. I'm hoping that this will be a bonding event for the three of them. Draco will have a port in Severus and Harry to give him some reprieve from his father. And Harry will have a friend who understands and will help smooth the road for him in the wizarding world. This story is very interesting!!! When will they realise that Harry did not defend himself but destroyed the squid to protect Draco? He has been taught too well and for too long to be able to protect himself. It's kind of like the baby elephants in India. The chain as a baby can be just a rope on the adult because the lesson was well and truly learned when they were most impressionable.

I think it's interesting that some other reviewers chose the words 'cute' and 'sweet' to describe this chapter. I'd have said, 'telling,' or perhaps, 'central,' because I think it very clearly delineates some basic issues relevant to these characters, both in canon, and in this story, including the persistence of hope, the importance of choice, and the need for understanding and forgiveness.
I'd quibble with a few word choices: Eyes belong 'in' rather than 'on' a face, and I think someone is 'averse' to something rather than 'adverse', and the last line would have been stronger without the leading interjection, which sounds ever-so-slightly overdone.
Compelling chapter, though, and Poppy's reaction was spot on. Draco's too, I think.
I'm rather looking forward to Harry's introduction to the rest of the staff. :)
Poor Severus. Harry is really difficult to handle. Too fragile. Too unsafety.
When will Severus tell Harry he's Harry's biological father anyway? I think it will make Harry feel more safe with Severus.
