Reviews For Better Be Slytherin!
Author's Response: Thank you! The Bloody Baron is one of those under utilized characters that I get to have so much fun with, because so little is written about him. And I am having fun!
The mirror scene was very sad and poignant, of course, and yet I couldn't help but feel hope for both Harry and Severus, because while it is tragically true that they have lost loved ones, but they do have each other now. What they want is a family. Harry already has seen Severus as part of his family through the mirror, and I imagine that if Severus did look into it, he might see Harry there, too. So even though they can't bring back the people they've lost, they can still have part of their heart's desire with one another. You know, I'm not normally a Dumbledore hater...I disagree with some of his decisions in canon and I know he made mistakes, probably the worst was condemning Harry to live with the Dursleys and not checking up on him. But I do think he was good at heart in canon, just in a very tough position. He reminds me of the saying that in war, a lot of times the choices aren't between good and bad; the choices are between bad and worse. It is a morally precarious place and of course Dumbledore erred sometimes. Well, all of that was to say that even though I disagree (vehemently) with some of his decisions, I do often feel a degree of sympathy for him too, and I've alway portrayed him in a fairly good light in my own story...but I just detest Dumbledore in BBS! And that is meant as a huge compliment to your writing skills and ability to portray different sides of a character. I'm looking forward to the next chapter, of whichever story is coming up next! Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, Kristeh! Dumbledore's a tough one for me sometimes . . . one of my favorite sayings is "Question Authority," and Dumbles seems to me to be the kind of person that saying was written for. IMO, he has a terribly stringent view of the world, very strongly in favor of his own perceptions, while not sometimes seeing the trees (the minutiae of the people whose lives he manipulates) for the forest (his battle between good and evil.) But other times, he really seems to care for those who are being hurt by his machinations. I tend to write him as more cognizant of -- but more hardhearted about -- the results of his deeds than he was portrayed in canon, but I believe, as a very intelligent man, he was more aware of the results of his actions (or lack thereof) than he claimed to be. He had to. And you're absolutely right about Snape and Harry and the mirror. :D
Author's Response: Thanks!
I wonder how Snape plans on keeping an eye on the Dursleys? It sucks that Harry has to go back there, but at least it's just two weeks. He will definitely enjoy the rest of his summer once he leaves there. Hope the Quidditch match goes well, (even though it's likely something bad will happen) I'll be crossing my fingers :) Please post again when you can! Author's Response: Thanks for the review! Sevn hasn't worked out yet how he's going to watch the Dursleys, but he'll figure something out.
Author's Response: Thanks for the review! I'm glad the slow change in Sev can be seen; I was tired to too many fics having him go from one extreme to the other too quickly. And yeah, Dumbles is kinda heartless in my book. I feel even in the books, he was rather heartless -- as Snape said, he had kept Harry safe for so long, just to have Dumbles send him like a pig to the slaughter. Here, in my story, it's more blatant, but then, Harry's not a favored Gryffindor, either.
Author's Response: Thanks!
Author's Response: Not a bad idea, Elfwyn! Maybe Snape will offer it as a possibility. Thanks for the review!
Btw- I voted for your fics! :) Author's Response: Thanks for the review and the vote! I'm sure Harry will survive his two weeks, especialy with Sev looking out for him.
Severus could put the Dursleys asleep for two weeks or let them know that they have another house guest - a rather nasty one - idiot headmaster. Author's Response: Thanks for the review! Having Sev be a houseguest of the Dursleys might be fun. For us observers, anyway. :-) |
