Reviews For Emerald Eyes
Author's Response: Well, to be honest, the tension you felt as you read was deliberate, so I'm actually thrilled to hear that this chapter had such an effect on you. LOL. I would love to have Severus claim Harry as his own in this story; however, I try to go about their relationship in a realistic way (in relation to the books), and I try to keep both of them in character as much as I can. Very subtle developments in their relationship...you're exactly right. ;) And as this IS Severus Snape, he always strikes me as a man whose explanations wouldn't make much sense to a twelve year old. Dumbledore always takes the time to explain himself thoroughly, but Snape can be impatient and aggressive, and therefore, he would probably end up blurting out his frustration, just as he did in this chapter. I will try to update as soon as I can. This weekend, I literally had to put up the invisible "Please don't talk to me" cage in order to finish this chapter. LOL. But that doesn't always work in my household. I'll work hard this week to crank out another installment of EE. Promise :) Thank you so much for the review, Cecilia!
Anyway, I really liked the way you have Harry and Severus slowly developing their relationship here. I like the way Severus tells Harry that the rules adults make might seem incomprehensible to a child, but they're not just doing it to be mean, or stupid, that they have a purpose--to protect and safeguard children. And he's also right in telling Harry that he doesn't truly understand the sacrifice Lily and James made--how can he when all he knows is his parents in the abstract? I think it would be neat if Severus allowed Harry to see some of his memories of Lily and him as children, in a Pensive, that way Harry could learn of his mother as a person. or even just talking about her would be fine. Can't wait for the part with the chamber! FYI--I've updated mine too, now you can see what punishment Sev gave Harry! Author's Response: LOL...I always love being the first to review anything, but I usually don't get the chance, since it takes me a couple of days to read my updated favorites ;) The relationship between Harry and Severus is growing ever-so-slowly, and of course, the awkwardness is still going to emerge from time to time, but I'm really glad that you appreciate the syrupy progession. Mentioning Lily's and James' sacrifice for Harry's life and safety really hit home this time, and even though his explanations may have been vague and confusing for Harry (done on purpose, by the way), it really helped him understand the lengths adults take to keep him safe. And the idea about the pensieve is neat; however, something that special will most likely be attempted in the sequel ;) I, too, can't wait to write the final chapters of this story, as it seems like I've been working toward them forever! LOL. Thanks for all of the wonderful feedback! I've got a bad chest cold at the moment and haven't had a chance to read much, but I'll definitely check out your newest chapter after I reply :) |
