Wow, this story is definitely quite dark and different, and very gripping! I can't wait to read more!! Poor Harry. But what's life without some Snape-induced Harry-angst? ;)

Haha, I love it! Poor little Harry, though. I would cry, too, if I were in his place. Yeah, I know he only cried over Hedwig, but I still think there was more to it. Too bad he doesn't know he's so close to where his mom grew up -- I'm sure that'd cheer him up. A smidge. Maybe.

I wonder what'll happen if Mrs. Figg never sees Harry around. Will she inform Dumbledore? Just a thought.

    Can't wait for more!

As you say, this is definitely different. Not too many people write stories where the Dursleys need to rescue Harry from Snape-abuse. ;-)

Fact: You can't please every one. However, I absolutely LOVE this story! This is the first one I've ever read like it, and I actually don't see Snape as harshly in this story as some might. He is feeding Harry and giving him clothes and a place to sleep. This version of Snape reminds me very much of how he is in the 7th book.

I love the detailed descriptions. They give me this...Dickension vibe that I love.

I can't wait to see where you take this. Please continue it! People who are a bit put off by it probably are into the Snape-wears-a-fuzzy-sweater-and-takes-Harry-in-for-Holiday-tea-and-biscuits type of fics.

I'm not. And this is brilliant, so keep writing! :)

Hi! I love this story just as much if not more then 'A Time and Place to Grow.' However, I did notice a little inconsistancy. In the first chapter when Harry arrived Snape gave him a bath with warm water in an upstairs bathroom, but he didn't have to go outside pump the water then heat it, like Harry has to do in order to do the dishes. I'm not a plumber or anything so I don't know for sure, but if the upstairs bathroom has running warm water shouldn't the kitchen as well? Of course, its possible I'm just jumping the gun and you plan on explaining this latter, but that was kind of bothering me. *shrugs* After all Snape is a wizard prehaps he charmed the bathroom or something.

Anyway, excellent chapter as always, I can't wait to see what happens when Harry runs away. The second I read about the tree that was close enough to the ground for him to climb I had this vision of Harry trying to run away but only making it to the tree.

Well, I'll stop rambling now and end with this is an excellent story and I hope you update soon.

I notice you're still getting mixed reviews. I don't think you should let that affect your writing. The story itself is very well written. Whether it feels believable depends a lot on your own internal consistency, which is so far quite good.

At this point, Snape assumes Harry to be lazy and arrogant, so a summer of work probably seems to him a way of keeping Harry in line. And Snape's over-the-top threats are really no more harsh from his threatening in school to have a student drink their own botched potion, or feed it to one's pet. Just as Harry actually believes that Snape might poison a student in school (Harry is pretty gullible where Snape's concerned), he'd believe Snape's threats at Spinners End. But Harry's also defiant, just as he defies Snape at school, willing (in canon) to even cause an explosion in Snape's class and steal from him.

I enjoy your stories even though canon-Snape actually tends to be physically nonagressive. With the one exception of when Harry looks in his pensieve, we only see him use physical force in defense or when he *has* to do it. But within the context of your stories it works.

This particular story is well-written and quite believable, and is different from the typical "Snape takes Harry to live with him" story. I'm enjoying it. Don't let uneven reviews concern you.

Something just is off with this and no it's not because of how you wrote your other stories. Harry is used to people treating him horribly during the summer. He is to much of a survivalist not to figure out how to placate Snape.

Ooohhh!!! Evil, evil Snape. It's hard to imagine a school-aged grudge still holding that much power over someone this many years later. Snape must have really been scarred by James and Sirius' treatment of him to still harbor this much resentment. He is just a mean, mean man. But if anyone can turn him into a better person (convincingly) it's you. If that is your plan. I don't know, maybe you plan on keeping him mean and grumpy for the whole story.

Poor Harry needs to learn when to keep his mouth shut. But I can't really see him being able to do that. Snape is just too infuriating.

I can only think that Harry is going to try to escape, but we can all imagine how that will turn out. Thanks for the update and take care...

Okay, this one at least made some sense but I still dont understand why Snape behaves the way he does. It was a good chapter, no doubt about it but it's a little too mysterious for me. I am afraid I am not much on mysteries. Rather impatient, I am. *shrugs*
