Reviews For Lily's Charm
Oh, now I really can't wait to see what happens next! Great chappie!
Author's Response: LOL I was not a fan of New Moon and Eclipse. Stupid Jacob. Glad you enjoyed!
Everyone seemed to be stumbling around trying to find the right words to say while trying, oh so hard, not to say the wrong ones. Remus' mission, Dumbledore's absence, Draco's assignment, Snape's emotions, and Harry's insecurities. Very, very well done. Author's Response: Thank you. I appreciate you kind words. I'm so happy you're enjoying it. :o)
In my adoptive home - respect was mutual. I do not believe being caught-out with long lectures and punishment (dissecting toads, detentions etc.) for every misdeed is likely to win any child's affections (even one as emotionally starved as Harry.) Frankly, punishment has never improved my behavior and nearly always left me resentful! Better that Snape try to understand Harry's reasoning and needs (i.e. He has pretty much raised himself and his friends have basically been his family and support.) Then Snape should explain his own concerns/fears about sharing specific information. Perhaps, they could reach an agreeable solution with a secrecy charm or some such thing. The lack of understanding and the “because I said so” approach - while very Snape-like – would have rubbed me completely wrong. In the HP books, it has always seems to me, most of the adult characters are at least as flawed - and usually a lot more so - than the children. Yet, the adults have the power and I guess because they are “adults” they are the ones who are right... (Believe me - my experiences tell me otherwise.) Your Malfoy is irritating as in canon with his, “Potter hates me.” As if he is the victim - not as if he hasn't more than earned every bit of Harry's dislike. My review is meant as food for thought - nothing else really. I can say what won me over to my parents was probably mostly their love. But also that they saw me as someone wonderful – who could do wonderful things – they believed in, saw and focused on the good in me. Nothing has had more power in my life than that love and vision. When I could recognize it - discipline was never an issue at all! I do like your story. Hope to read more soon. Author's Response: Thanks for your thoughts. But, I have to point out that no one told Harry to call Severus anything and in fact, Severus tells Harry twice that he is perfectly allowed to call him whatever he chooses. Remus doesn't tell Harry to call him dad...he tells him that he is not allowing himself to open up to Harry...which is true. He also only points out that Harry is now just calling Snape, 'he'. This is Harry feeling uncomfortable here. He wants to call Snape something more than just sir. I think this partly has to do with Harry's issues. He wants desperately to be loved and accepted and he's really putting it on himself...all this pressure. Not Snape and not Remus. Remus is trying to help Harry understand his feelings. Harry actually transfers what Remus actually did say to something a bit different. "Snape nodded and turned away, the pain not nearly shadowed enough for Harry to miss it this time. Harry’s heart clenched against his ribcage as he witnessed the hurt that Remus had been so sure Harry had been causing his father. Harry drew a breath; it was now or never, then." Now, Remus didn't actually say Severus was hurt by his not being called dad, only that Harry's pushing Sev away was hurting him. And so it way. It was Harry who took this to mean that 'dad' could make it all better. And you're right...Harry is forgiving but that's who Harry is. Harry has way too many issues to make this whole 'dad' issue black and white. Another thing though too is that Harry was inside Snape's mind and though we didn't see it all...Harry did. Harry knows the deep regret and wretchedness that Snape feels about what's he did to Harry. That's a bit different from just hearing it from someone or not hearing it at all. And, though Snape was very wrong in the way he treated Harry...he didn't know what he knows now and he was a very twisted and warped man...still is and Harry I think is mature enough to realize it. Harry's maturity as he's seen and done so much, changes his reactions to things. I don't think Snape's lectures and such are what's winning Harry over. It's the quiet things. The pride about his Occlumency...the telling off of McGonagall that Harry is his responsiblity now when McGonagall has reallly never done much to help Harry...the vigil in the hospital...the gentle hand on his brow...the allowing him to help and be confident in his ability to help with a potion...Snape's own hurt and jealousy over Lupin....his new methods of teaching Occlumency...the inclusion into the adult world of plotting. All those things are slowing winning Harry over, not the lectures. Sorry about my irritating Malfoy. I love irritating Malfoy thought. That's just Malfoy. LOL I understand what you're saying about your parents...but I think Snape is demonstrating those things to Harry, just in his own Snape way. He has shown confidence in Harry and Snape is focusing on the good in Harry and he is showing him love even though he has yet to say the words. Slowly but surely. Anyway...thanks for your thoughts. Glad you are enjoying! :o)
Author's Response: You're welcome. I'm glad you're happy with the way the story is going. :o) And while I do agree that canon Harry probably didn't go looking for trouble per se, this Harry still has lots of things to be unsure of in his relationship with Snape and there's bound to be some misunderstandings! LOL The next chapter will be up tonight or tomorrow, depending on when I can make myself stop writing. This one is just too fun! :o)
Really love Remus here! Especially since he's able to handle the ups and downs of a conversation with Harry. And I especially love the fumbling Harry, trying to explain why he's unable to call Snape anything familiar. *sigh* But that werewolf! He's just soo great, and especially helpful when Snape (and Dumbledore) does show up, acting as though these conversations occur all the time. But, I wonder how much it took for him to beable to act so nonchalant around a very parental!Snape (which was also great by the way) because it couldn't have been easy, still. But, he did it!! And, luckily, both he and Severus seem to be snuggling into their respective roles quite well. Although it was a bit disconcerning for me to see Remus check and make sure Snape wasn't going to strangle him again if he hugged Harry. But I suppose that's not something anyone would want repeated. *sigh again* Poor Remus. I adore this parental!Snape!!! But of course, it makes sense and that makes it all the more great! And now, hopefully, he's got it into Harry's skull that he loves him dang it and wants to be a father to him! But that little diatribe of Snape's...was perfect, as was Harry's unwillingness to let his tears drop from the shame of dissapointing his father. *sigh yet again* The 180 in conversation was certainly called for as well, and perfect timing for a smile to creep onto Harry's face...talking about Voldemort, the crazy man that wants to kill me always brings a smile to my face as well. But, it was perfectly in character, all that went on in this chapter really was, and I can't go a review without saying that! It's just so true!! I don't blame Harry for his attitude towards fighting Voldie either, I'm pretty sure that's the only way he can look at his situation without going nutters. And he's had a lot to deal with lately...oh the agnst!! Keep it comming! (Although, considering the closing lines to this chapter, I think it's not going anywhere!) I'm also really curious with the history between Severus and the Malfoys that you've got cooking on the back burner. Hopefully there's more of that in the next chapter...and I remember you mentioning that there's going to be a flashback!? Yippee!! Love baby Harry and Severus!! Can't wait! Lastly, I suppose, I adored the lunch scene, something about it being their first real meal together...*heaves yet another sigh* And as for that last scene...words truly fail, except for two, that is: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! Can't wait for the next chapter! (That was a pretty evil cliff! But I suppose it's a logical place to stop...) Have a good week and Happy Birthday Severus Snape! I also love Stephenie Meyer and detest Jacob, more on that if you like! I'm also really glad that I decided to call my friend toda-erm...yesterday, because she told me that you had updated and that I'd love the last line...and she was right! But the reason that I didn't already read this update...I've been bitten by the fanfic bug and have actually started my own fic. I'll be sure to send it to you to see what you think (just as soon as I get some sleep!) if that's alright! Have a happy week! Author's Response: LOL 'acting as though those conversations occur all the time". I love that people keep picking up on this. Don't know why except that it's just so Remus for me. I love Remus. Once he decided to try to let Harry and Severus do their thing, he really is trying. Love that about him. It was a really hard conversation to write as I wanted him to be able to be there for Harry but also give the kid a big swift kick in the butt! Glad to see I managed fairly well. LOL Well, would you want to be strangled by Snape? :oP It wasn't though totally that he was a afraid to be strangled by Snape...he's not a coward that one, but he was more just gauging Snape's reaction so he could see how Severus was taking everything. He is trying, you know. LOL Parental Snape...yeah, now that was FUN to write. LOL I hope Harry at least got a bit of that message from Snape. He can't help but at least be assured that Snape isnn't about to throw him overboard. And yeah, it was no fun for Harry to hear that he had hurt and disappointed his father. But, unfortunately for him, it won't be the last time. LOL I did love that dazed smile of Harry's as he's about to talk about Voldemort! LOL It just seemed so--Harry! Thanks for the in character compliment. There characterizations are my favorite part of writing. Harry is pretty nonchalant about fighting Voldie, but hmmm...could those adults have been thinking something more than they were revealing? ;o) Glad you liked the whole Malfoy/Severus dynamic we've got going on. Can't promise more of that next chapter but soon anyway. And yep, there is a bit of flashback next chapter though! The lunch scene was awkward, wasn't it? But, they have to start somewhere, I suppose. Glad you liked the ending and of course I had to leave it at a cliffie. What else can you expect of me? LOL After all, Severus does need a minute to collect his thoughts for this one. :oP And, as I said, this one was for you, so yay that you enjoyed it! Yeah, I'll always engage in some Jacob bashing (yuck!). Yes, and please send me your fic when you have time. I'd love to see it. Thanks for reading and thanks for reviewing again as usual! :o)
I'm glad they finally gave Harry some answers. I have to admit that I like Harry's git-er-done attitude. I'm sure he doesn't WANT to face Voldemort, but he's of the mind that if he has to he might as well get on with it. Can't blame him for that. Anyway, thanks so much for another great chapter. Take care... Author's Response: Finally. Yeah, maybe that should have been the name of the chapter. It's about time, Harry! LOL Hmmm...I guess we'll have to see which type Snape is, if he can even get the words out. LOL But, yeah, Harry at least seems more the dad type. I'm glad you liked Harry's attitude about Voldemort. It just seems like he'd want it over with so he can get on with his life, but hmmm...it seems there must be something he's not considering yet, as all those adults were giving him rather strange looks...(okay, I'll stop being annoying). Thanks for the review. Glad you're still enjoying!
Lio Author's Response: Did he? LOL I guess we'll see next chapter. :oP Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. I'm so happy (yay!) that you are still enjoying. And, yep, lots of courage for that one but you know Harry's got plenty more where that came from! :o) |
