A good chapter! I actually find the short chapters quite refreshing. I think I've said it before, but you do a nice job with Snape's voice. Keep postin' ;)
Awww. Poor Harry, he is so dumb sometimes its cute. When is Snape gonna find out about the abuse. Will it change how he punishes Harry? Well I can't wait to read more.

I like Snape's threat of whipping Harry. It always amuses me in novels, usually by Dickens, when characters threaten to whip someone else. By whipping, they could mean anything a light spanking all the way to a ship flogging with a cat o' nine tails. the same goes with the British term "thrashing" which the Victorians prefered over whipping.
Snape's use of exaggeration or hyperbole as we call it in English literature rather proves that his bark is worse than his bite and that we should expect to hear much more of the same diatribe that Snape liked to gripe out to relieve his frustration.

interesting begining. can't wait to see the reactions to the Dursleys. Thanx for the story.
I like this. It's a short beginning, but I can't wait to see more chapters. I like how your version of Snape - actions definitely speak louder than words with him. He refuses to do anything with Potter, absolutely refuses, and the next thing you know Snape has the signed document and is caring the boy over his shoulder off to care for him. Seeing Snape's temperament, I doubt that care will be exactly what Harry wants, though it may be precisely what the boy needs.
I also like the idea that Dumbledore insist Harry has an escort. Sometimes I wondered in the books why someone wasn't ordered to watch Harry every moment as he and trouble found each other eventually.
And Harry not following Snape - not a good sign this early in your story.
Can't wait to read more.
