Reviews For Slave Child
Author's Response: Thank you very much!
This was an excellent chapter, moving the plot and the relationship along another step. I think giving Harry new trainers was a "brilliant" idea. Too bad Harry didn't confide in Snape about his other birthdays. I can taste it, almost there, and then Harry doesn't come through. Ugh!! I think I'm feeling a bit like how Snape must be feeling. I want Harry to trust and confide in the man so very much. Of course I can completely understand Harry's hesitance. Snape has to do more to earn the boy's trust. As Dr. Phil always says, "The biggest predictor of future behavior is past behavior." I believe that. Harry obviously does too. Although, I also think that, with great effort, people can and do change. Sometimes. Perhaps if Snape were to tell a bit more about his own past birthdays from when he was a child. We found out that he was allowed to lie-in and eat breakfast in bed. Maybe if he told Harry more, Harry would tell him more. Harry needs more concrete proof of Snape's change of heart; I really don't blame his reluctance to confide. It's realistic; yet frustrating at the same time. I saw at the Yahoo Group that "something is going to happen at Diagon Alley." So, what will happen? Very interested to find that out. I'm looking forward to reading about seeing the witches and wizards at Diagon Alley treat Harry and Snape like father and son. That should be very interesting to read about. Is Harry going to get Snape's old potions book at some point as he did in HBP? Harry, in canon, really came to like and admire "The Prince." Will there be anything of that in this story? Will Harry get into Newt Potions in your story? Snape's requirement was an O on the Potions OWL and in canon Harry received and E. Is your Snape going to allow Harry in with an E. Or, are you going to have Harry receive an O in your story. Harry ought to be getting his OWL results soon in your story. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with that. Thank you for the wonderful update. Also, btw, I always like your author responses. You don't just say, "Thanks for the review." Each response is thoughtful and tailored to the comment. That must be time consuming; but, I greatly appreciate it. Author's Response: Hi, Anne and welcome to P&S! Was it any easier to leave a review this time? Well, I keep saying that I'm going to take a few days off writing, but after every chapter I'm having such fun that I want to keep going. So while I've got the time and the muse is strong, I guess I'll try to write as much as I can. I'm so happy you're enjoying it. Glad you liked the trainers. As Severus said, he does plan to buy Harry some other things, too, but he did notice that Harry's old shoes were a bit worse for wear, so new trainers seemed like one good gift. I know about wanting Harry to trust Sev! I really do want to get to that part too, but it's coming. I thought Harry made a little more progress here, realising that he did want to start over and trust Severus. But like you said, Severus hasn't done enough to earn it yet. Severus is a bit frustrated and wants Harry to trust him, but it's very hard for him to open up and show vulnerabilities, too...one way that he and Harry are alike, maybe? Just as it took Harry being so badly injured and feeling that he was responsible for it, to make Severus realise that he'd been wrong about Harry, I think it will also take something big to shake Severus enough to see that he's going to have to open up and do more to reach Harry. Fortunately, (or maybe unfortunately), there are some major events coming up. I'm looking forward to writing the Diagon Alley chapter, too. I think it will be fun to see Harry and Severus exploring the shops and spending some time together away from school or Prince Hall. I think I'm just going to have Harry earn an O and rightfully have a place in Potions class, and he will receive his OWL scores in August. I'm thinking the OWL scores could be a nice lead-in for a conversation on some issues there that those two need to discuss...particularly Harry feeling depressed about his choices, or lack thereof, about his future. Oh, I really enjoy writing back to readers! It's a lot of fun to discuss the characters and events, and sometimes you all see things that I hadn't even thought of! Thank you, too, for your reviews which are always thoughtful and thought-provoking!
OH, and the beginning of the chapter was heartbreaking with Harry wishing for what could have been. Very sad. Poor kid. I only hope Severus can continue to give him what he needs. Wonderful chapter. Author's Response: Thank you! I don't know that Severus really expects Harry to just start over, but it's very hard for him to bring up the past, apologise, and really deal with those issues. It's so difficult for him to admit that he was wrong and to show vulnerability (in his eyes, at least). So I think he's just kind of hoping that they can start over and that if he treats Harry well from now on, that sooner or later things will smooth over. I think, deep down, he does understand that it can't be that easy, but he's not ready to face it yet. But don't worry...there will plenty of juicy heart-to-hearts later on. In fact, you'll probably get sick of them! Yep, the beginning was sad, wasn't it. Even while I was writing it, I wanted to give Harry a hug...and then shake him and say, "You've got to accept that past can't ever happen, but just look at what you can have here, with Sev and Norie and Zan? It's not the same, but it could be good, too." But Harry isn't ready to trust that either, so I wouldn't have gotten very far with him, I don't think.
Author's Response: Thank you! I think Harry's making progress, isn't he? I think it was the first time that he realised he 'sort of' wanted to confide in Severus, even if he isn't ready to do so yet. And yep, the 'father/son' polyjuice might have been a subtle hint on Sev's part.
Author's Response: Thank you! Well, Severus isn't a Slytherin for nothing, is he? Glad you liked it!
Author's Response: Thank you! I have a feeling it will be a very eventful birthday for Harry, *snickers evilly*. |
