Can't masters free their slaves. As the master they are in charge, just "You're free" and it's over. It being as simple as that would be hilarious.

Never mind, I got my answer to the previous review. Harumph, Harry overthinks a bit, doesn't he? He just forgot to leave a simple note, he even said sorry even then he thinks that Severus would leave him? Of course I know that he has a low self esteem, but of man, that was pretty pathetic, even for Harry, who seems to be an all time low in this story.

Author's Response: Yes, Harry might be at an all time low, but hey, I had to try to keep some drama going, didn't I?

I'm surprised the spell didn't punish him for disobeying Severus by not leaving a note

please update soon!! this story is great! I must say you made me cry many times, the mark of a good author for me. I must say though, I kept thinking in my head "give Harry zoloft!" LOL

I love long stories too, so I definitely want more! please update HP & the potions professor as well. Thanks!

Author's Response: Thanks so much!  I'm really happy you're enjoying SC!  I'm working on chapter 34 today, so hopefully it won't be too long before it's finished.  I'm afraid "HP and the Potions Professor" is on hiatus until I'm finished with the SC universe, but I will get back to it eventually.  Thanks again!

Okay, so I have been absent from the fanfiction scene for a long time and I am now just catching up. It's been so long that I had to read the story from the start in order to connect to it. -shakes head- Anyway, I just wanted to say that so far, the story is wonderful. I love it and hope that you'll update near future. I just...well, now I am being greedy for updates. Ignore me.

Author's Response: Thank you very much!  It's good to have you back.  I'm working on the next chapter, but I'm not sure when it'll be finished yet.  My family is keeping me busy.

Yes! It's about time they talk about the slavery spell. I was starting to wonder why this story was called "Slave Child". ;-) I have been wondering why Harry hasn't been running into the spell affecting his life more, so I'm interested to see how you conceive the spell.

    Author's Response:

Thank you!  Well, yes, there are some aspects of the slavery spell that they do still need to discuss.  But truthfully, the spell isn't affecting Harry , at least not in practical ways, for a couple of reasons.  One, he really hasn't done anything to test it, and if I knew that I would be killed or likely suffer terribly if I broke any of its rules, I don't believe I'd be testing it either, lol!  Seriously, I think 'my' spell is not as restrictive as others possibly.  I don't have any desire to write about Harry being in a lot of pain, or being degraded or humiliated.  The part back when his lungs were burned was very hard for me to write, and I probably wouldn't have except that I though it was important for Severus' change of heart.  But the story has always been intended to be more about Harry's emotional wounds and healing.  I don't know if I'm portraying it well...it might be a failing on my part...but Harry is still hurt and affected by the spell, but at the same time, he is starting to heal, too.  He is happy with Severus, though he wishes they weren't bound by a slavery spell, but only by adoption.  Harry doesn't consciously think about the spell all the time now.  He is trying to move on with life, but it is always in the back of his mind, affecting the way he thinks of himself and the way he perceives others as seeing him.  There will be some more angst directly related to the slavery spell later on, too.

There is another reason, too, why the spell doesn't act directly or physically right now...but I'm not getting into that for a while yet, lol!

    Thanks again!

Beautiful, as always. I know I haven't reviewed the last few chapters, but rest assured that I still love the story and eagerly wait for the next chapter to come.
I especially loved the way you portrayed Harry changing his view of Filch here. He is right and as I've wondered before if it really is 'just' him being unable to do magic that turns him sour, I'd love to find out why you think he acts the way he does...

Thanks although for finally initiating the talk about slavery. I think it would do some good for Harry by now...

Thanks a lot for this chap,
    ai

Author's Response: Thank you!  I'm happy to know you're still enjoying the story.  As for Filch, I do feel sorry for him and have wondered about him.  Though I also have to admit that he became a darker character than I'd previously thought him in OotP, when he so completely fell in line with Umbridge and even seemed willing to beat the students.  Until then, I'd imagined him as someone whose bark was worse than his bite, but now I'm not sure.  Still, I think I'll downplay that a bit in SC.  And yes, there are some practical aspects of the slavery spell that still need to be discussed and Harry still needs lots of reassurances to heal.  Thanks again!

Well, Severus truly is a reformed character where Harry is concerned. I'm glad you hsven't given Harry a quick fix emotionally so there are still plenty of issues for them to work through. Looking forward to seeing how they deal with the problems the new school term is sure to bring.

Author's Response: Thank you!  Harry has been through so much lately.  Frankly it's amazing the poor kid is still functioning considering the lifetime of abuse he's suffered from the Dursleys, the loss of Sirius, and the slavery spell.  I really think it would be too unrealistic if he were just all of a sudden completely over it all.  Having Severus and being loved is helping him to heal, but it's more a 'two steps forward, one step back' type of process.  It seems that that is how things often go in real life, anyway.  Thanks again!

This was a sad chapter... I actually don't really know why it hit me the way it did... I think the idea of Harry befriending Filch is a good one, though. It's rather original, though I'm not sure how Filch would take it. But the ending was sad, and I hope you update soon so I can be happy :)

Author's Response: Thank you!  Yeah, I suppose it was kind of sad in a way, but I also think Harry and Severus are bound to have a few bumps in the road, too.  But they'll work it all out.  I'm not sure how Filch will take Harry's befriending him, either, lol!  It might be interesting to see.  I'll try to work on the next chapter sometime this weekend.  We'll see how it goes.  Thanks again!
