I dunno, Severu cried for the first time in years, that was sweet. Even my heart shattered when Harry asked if Severus really forgave him. You know what, I really think that it serves Harry right after suffering from pneumonia, he shouldn't have gone off, he should have known that Severus would think only of his well being. He should have known and he should have had told the others so too, especially people like Seamus.

Another reason for snape to feel guilty. How annoying when Harry did something bad and this is just going to lead to an early forgiveness and take the attention off of his disobedience.

    Hi,
Been following your story for a while now and I just love it. Read only few stories that take this premise and handle it so well. The tension is incredible. It’s wonderful how you give them both such an incredibly human voice. The last few chapters especially were a bit of a roller coaster. (which is a good thing for us readers :-)
Harry going flying I find completely in character, wouldn't have expected otherwise! His complete turnaround when punished, I out of character for him I guess. He does not agree with Severus on the topic of flying, but then he is so contrite and in this last chapter so completely begs for his forgiveness? Hmm.. not completely convinced, maybe.
Severus' reaction when finding out seems way over the top as well (abusive). Taking away, well.., everything Harry "possesses", when Harry has so many issues about that. But maybe that is actually IN character for Severus? Par for the course? Severus is still learning maybe, but with an enormous fallout for Harry. (Harry gets punished for misbehaving, Severus acted abominably with far greater consequences, and does not. Oh well! That’s what guilt is for, we adults are so hypocritical.. ;-)
The last chapter is sweet however, with Severus finally telling Harry how he feels, and singing 0_o. Just dying to read their next Big Conversation, and looking forward to the next chapter very much! Please keep writing?
    Regards,

    Author's Response:

Hey, sorry it took me so long to respond.  I was out of town for a few days and then got very busy writing on "Pair of Phoenixes".  Thank you very much for your thoughtful comments.  I guess people see the characters in different ways and what is OOC for one person is not for someone else.  I do tend to see Harry as more humble than some other people.  Yes, in canon Harry did have a bit of a temper and he could be snarky and headstrong.  But I think he was generally very respectful to adults (more on that in a minute) and very contrite and remorseful when he did make a mistake.

In canon, there are some instances when Harry talked back, but that was mainly with the Dursleys and with Snape.  To be honest, I cannot blame him, even though I normally am a big stickler for kids respecting adults.  But both the Dursleys and canon Snape were so abusive to Harry and for so long, that I don't blame Harry for sticking up for himself after a time.  No one has to be a doormat to abusers.

And yes, I do completely agree that it is a bit hypocritical for Severus to be so harsh when he has done much worse things than Harry, and has treated Harry so badly in the past.  That's why I generally avoid stories where Harry is portrayed as a smart-alecky kid who needs to be put in his place while Snape is portrayed as a near-perfect adult.  And yeah, I probably idealize him as a father-figure too, but I do believe that it is a crucial step in Severus' development for him to realize how badly he has mistreated Harry and to feel some real remorse over it.

In regards to this particular incident, I think there is some blame on both sides.  Harry is not completely innocent, but I think Severus was too harsh.  To be fair, Severus did not intend to be overly harsh...his actions stemmed from his great fear and yes, he was also very angry, and in the heat of the moment, he over-reacted.  Parents are not perfect either.  But in the next chapter, they are going to talk more about Harry's reasons for being so desperate to play and reach more of a compromise.  Harry will not get off scot-free, but Severus will relent in some areas, too.

Again, thank you very much and I'm sorry for taking so long to get back with you.  I hope you'll see this!

You did a great job of communicating the pain, guilt and helplessness a parent feels when his/her child is sick.

    Thank you.

Author's Response: Thank you!  Yes, as a parent I know it is a terrible feeling when your child is ill or hurt and there's not much you can do.  Thanks for reviewing.

Aww, Sev is singing. So he can be a softy after all.

Author's Response: Thank you!  Yes, Severus has softened up a lot towards Harry, hasn't he?

Snape doesn't take the spell into consideration at all. I don't understand how he can be that oblivious about it. His behaviour is downright cruel. The punishment is way to harsh: To deprive him of his friends, his most valued posessions, revoke any given trust and on top of that not to give a time frame is - under these circumstances - plain abusive. And anyway he could just have given Harry some extra pepper up or anti-cold potion intstead of denying him the game.

    Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments.  I had hoped with this situation to have a conflict where there was some right and wrong on both sides, and where both characters' feelings and motivations could be sympathetic, or at least understandable.  I'm sorry you think Severus is abusive here...I don't think he is being abusive (and he certainly does not intend to be), but he is perhaps being too harsh.  Harry and Severus still have some things to talk about here, such as exactly why Harry needed to play so badly, how Quidditch and flying make him feel free and how much it means to his feelings about his self-worth.  I think Severus will realize that perhaps he was a bit harsh and he will relent on certain parts.

And yes, the whole conflict might have been avoided with some potion or other, but that wouldn't have made for a very interesting situation.  I guess I sacrificed a bit of logic for the plot, lol.

Aww poor Harry, at least he knows now why he should listen to his guardian lol, sweet moment at the end with Severus climbing in with Harry so that he could be there when he wakes :)

Author's Response: Thank you!  I loved that part at the end, too!

This chapter is really very very sweet!!! I love Severus doubts as father. I can wait for them to talk. I hope Harry will realize Severus is singing him lullaby, it's the cutest thing I can imagine from him.

Author's Response: Thank you!  Yeah, I think just about all parents have doubts sometimes, and yeah, they still need to talk about some things.  Glad you liked the ending!
