Reviews For Slave Child
Author's Response: Thank you! I think that Remus is basically a kind person, too, but I also think he has a lot of issues in letting himself become close to others, stemming both from insecurities caused by being a werewolf and more importantly, from losing so many people he loved in such shocking and terrible ways. He lost two close friends, who were like family, to murder and another to betrayal. So I think Remus has some things that he needs to work through too. While he cares for Harry, I think he has deliberately kept emotional distance between them and has tried to keep from becoming genuinely close. Thanks again!
Author's Response: Thank you! I tried to portray the reunion between Harry and Remus as awkward, with Harry not sure what to feel or expect. More about Draco and his troubles in the next chapter.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'll try.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked that scene; I enjoyed writing it.
You marvellously captured Harry's inner conflict and insecurity about his situation and his life. And Severus' insecurities as well now that I think about it. I'm still ambiguous about Draco although you characterize him and his problems well. I know I wasn't this hesitant to grant Snape a second chance. He had been a victim during his childhood and youth though and that drove him to the 'dark side' whereas Draco had always been the offender. So maybe it's that. Anyway I like how you play with prejudices all-around. That is cleverly done - or dare I say it sophisticated even. Well, I did have to say some things after all and now only one is left: keep going Author's Response: Oh, thank you! I'm happy that you're still reading and enjoying the story. I can understand your ambivalence towards Draco. He wasn't particularly sympathetic earlier on in the story, or in canon for that matter. Except that in the "Slave Child" universe, Draco was abused and neglected. Children who have suffered these conditions aren't always pleasant or easy to deal with; they often have a lot of anger inside. But they are still victims and need help and guidance and compassion. Plus, after all those years with Lucius and Narcissa as parents, it's no wonder that Draco was indoctrinated with their beliefs. But I think he has the potential to change and to become a better person and I wanted to play with that idea. I completely understand what you're saying about Severus too, about how he was bullied and abused during his youth and that's why he eventually joined Voldemort. But let's not forget that for whatever reasons, he was indeed a Death Eater for a time, and though it's often glossed over (and I do that too), he likely did some horrible things to innocent people during those years. It may be easier to forgive him and grant him another chance because we know that he was remorseful and that he did what he could to atone for his actions. But Draco is younger and Severus might not have been so self-aware at sixteen either. My own personal opinion is that Draco (at least 'my' Draco, lol) would have had a similar change of heart if he had continued on that path, that once he saw innocent people suffering and dying, he would have realized that he wasn't a killer and would haverejected that life. Of course some of this is speculation, but that's how I see Draco in the SC universe at least. Thanks again!
Author's Response: Thank you! Draco's issues stem from his experience with Greyback being among those who tortured him and murdered his mother. He's very traumatized, understandably I think.
But then Draco stepped in. lol. It seems he's not too happy with the new situation. Hopefully, that'll work itself out without too much drama though Draco seems synonymous with drama in this story. I can't wait to see how this new situation shuffles up their lives. I hope we'll see some more Harry and Severus time and Harry forgiving Draco a little more, enough to work together. Great chapter, Kristeh! PS: There's a lot of blank space at the end of the chapter. Did Word create an extra page for you before you uploaded it here? Author's Response: Thank you, Ella! >>>I love how it was Harry reassuring Severus this time. It shows how much Harry has grown since the beginning of the story. That's exactly what I wanted to show in this scene, and to show that Harry can take an active role in helping to heal Severus too.
>>>...though Draco seems synonymous with drama in this story. LOL, yeah, he's good for that. Draco has issues of his own, definitely, but I hope to show him maturing and coming into his own too, as the story proceeds. He has a lot of potential, I think. About all the blank space, somehow I must have double-copied the chapter. When I pasted it onto the P&S site, it posted twice so I had to delete the extra stuff and it left extra space, I suppose.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the scene with Harry and Severus...I just love writing them! As for Draco, he has been really traumatized by his experiences with Greyback (and Dolohov) torturing him and killing his mother, and even though he knows in his mind that Remus is a different sort; he still is more frightened than ever of werewolves. He and Remus have some growing and healing to do too. Though I don't want to take the main focus of the story off of Harry and Sev, that will also be a part of it.
Thanks again!
With Narcissa's death though, it all makes sense, doesn't he? Draco is seriously messed up and traumatized. I wonder how Severus is going to handle all this. I can't seeing Draco wanting to go "live" with Remus eventually if he's not even willing to let Remus tutor him! It was so sweet how Harry praised Severus and Severus was so modest about his accomplishment with the Wolfsbane Potion and how far he's come along. Poor Harry. All these conflicting feelings must have the poor boy in a tailspin It was sweet and yet sad how Harry was comparing his life now, to when he was living with the Dursleys. Great chappie Kristeh. As usual, I enjoyed it so much! :) I just can't wait for the next chappie. Author's Response: Thanks, Pandora! Draco has always been nervous of Remus because of the werewolf issue, but yeah, it's much worse now since Greyback and Dolohov murdered Narcissa. And yeah, Remus and Draco have a lot of work to do on their relationship before Draco is at ease with him. I'm so happy that you liked the scene with Harry and Severus. Severus has been so good for Harry, to help him heal and to build his self-esteem, but he has scars from the past too, and I wanted to show that Harry has grown and matured enough that he can recognize that and that he can help his father too. Thanks again and I can't wait to read some more from you!
