Thanks for the swift update! It was excellent as usual. I particularly enjoyed your Ron and Hermione, both of who were pitch-perfect. Neville, quietly grave, was also well-characterised. But it was Harry's self-realisation of all the changes that have gone on around him without his notice that ultimately struck me most. This seems to me an issue that comes up a lot in Snape-Harry-centric stories, but that is rarely addressed so candidly as you do so here.

I look forward to seeing how events develop. Very exciting!

    Author's Response:

I agree; Neville often gets marginalized and caricatured in fanfiction, and it's really a shame, because he's such an interesting character!

Harry's seeming blindness to the bigger picture, in many Snape-Harry stories, bothers me too -- which is why I try to write this story within its larger context. I'm happy to hear that it works!

    Thanks for reviewing!

I think you're doing a fantastic job of characterization.
I went back and reread b/c I'd missed several updates. Gonna add to my faves to not miss any more.
I love how Snape is slowly opening up, as is Harry. Awesome job!

    Author's Response:

Oh, wow, I'm flattered. Thank you!

Oh, excellent chapter! you succeeded wonderfully in capturing Harry's level of want by showing, rather than telling -- that brief memory of the Weasley's told more than any mere description of want ever could. I also particularly enjoyed your representation of Lily's marginalia. Snape's restrained, yet unmistakeable empathy was well done -- not too mushy at all! I am so glad for this update, and can't wait to see where you take the story.

    Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your kind words, and your faithful reviewing!

I'm glad to see that you updated. I liked how Professor Snape gave Harry Lily's book. Book titles should not be in quotation marks but italicized or underlined.

    Author's Response:

Ah, yes. I'm a journalist/journalistic editor, so sometimes some AP style slips in. Thanks for the catch!

I enjoyed this chapter very much! I like the changes in Harry and Severus's interactions with one another, but you've also managed to keep them feeling like the canon characters despite this. I particularly liked the brewing scene.

I am very much looking forward to the next chapter! Well done!

(And I hope your exams go well!)

Author's Response: Thank you for the review, and the well-wishes. I'm glad you liked the chapter!

I'm very impressed with your story so far. You have succeeded in making the relationship between Harry and Snape grow slowly, but steadily, towards a greater understanding. I can even see the faint beginnings of liking. Great job!!!!

Lovely chapter, with a wonderful length and compelling development. I appreciate your laconic Snape, how his assessing gaze says even more than his words. Harry was particularly enjoyable to watch develop in this chapter. Thank you for updating so quickly, and I continue to look forward to more!

    Author's Response:

Mmm... Snape has always seemed to me to be the sort of man who speaks little, but says much. And Harry... given the events of the first chapter, I thought he might just be impulsive enough to pull a stunt like that!

Thank you for the lovely review!

I love this story more and more with each chapter. Snape and Harry are both in character, and yet the relationship and interaction between them are changing realistically as the tale moves on.

My favorite part of this chapter is the bit about the time-lapse shrinking spell. I laughed out loud when the penny dropped for Harry and he realized why Snape taught him the spell. *grin*

Of course, this means that Harry won't have an excuse for not finishing his summer homework!

Well done! As always, I look forward to the next chapter!

    Author's Response:

I'm very glad you're enjoying it, and that you find the characterization realistic; I do try. :)

I am sure that given the various other activities avaliable to him at the Dursleys', Harry would much prefer to do his summer homework.

    Thank you for reviewing!
