Title: A Lesson, of a Different Sort 30 Dec 2008 10:13 am

I'd actually forgotten all about this particular story...its just been so long! But Im glad that you updated it again, this was one of the best stories i think...

But anyway, this was a very intersting chapter, what with the mind and going inside it and everything. I really enjoyed reading that part. It was good.

Yes, so, make sure to update again please. This story is going really good :)

    Author's Response:

Thank you; I am flattered that you think so highly of this story, given the quality we find in this Archive. I'm glad you like my interpretation of the art of Occlumency.

I will try my best to update once more before the end of winter break, but that is unlikely to happen, given that I go back to school in less than a week.

This review is late, I know, but I just found time to return to the site. Been busy!

Well, Harry sure got a revelation! That scene during last Occlumency lessons was intense, I sure would feel uncomfortable in the room. Well, looks like Harry is going to try again though, good for him!

I'll keep an eye out for your next update! I'm curious about what will happen now with Harry's new determination.

    Author's Response:

    Welcome back!

I'm glad you felt it uncomfortable (well, you know what I mean). It was meant to be such, and it is a great compliment to say that you felt as the characters did. Thank you!

Oh my gosh, GREAT story! All the characters are very in-character and I love the trust thing. I hope that you'll update this story ASAP. It's too well-written to be abandoned. In the next chapter, I hope Snape finds out more about the Dursleys. I absolutely adore fics about Occlumency! I'll be checking every day for the next part of this story!

I liked the way you had Dumbledore point out to Harry that it wasn't easy for Severus to trust him, everyone always seems to overlook that detail and think that as the teacher, he should just be able to put all of his distrust aside and just teach, when he too has been emotionally scarred. Perhaps Dumbledore might suggest the two spend some time together, unlikely as that may be, because unless they do, trust can never be established between them and the Occlumency lessons will fail. Look forward to reading more!

If you have time, would you mind reading one of mine, I always love to get new readers' opinions. I have several posted here, so just pick one, though there are 2 different series, but the prequel to Never Again is just started, so you would need to start with the sequel, not that it matters. Or you could read Heir to Prince Manor, it has Draco and Harry in it, as brothers.

    Author's Response:

That's what I thought, too, that all too often, authors had Dumbledore inconsiderate of Snape's discomfort. I don't think my Dumbledore would go so far as to suggest a solution, though. I don't know; I'll poke him and see if he does.

Thanks for reviewing! I'll take a look at your work sometime; no promises as to when, but I'll leave a review when I do.

Okay, so there's really not that much to critique; I read the chapter probably three times and thought about it really hard, as i also adore comments. But I do think i may have found something.

"The old man smiled then, from his beard to his eyes." It feels a bit passive, I think, and a little halting. It's not a bad line at all, but it's not a great one either.

"The angle of Dumbledore’s head was such that his eyes again met Harry’s." This sentence feels a little odd. I understand what it is saying, but I don't know...

Also, I love how you're showing how Harry is changing, becoming more determined. In book 5, had Dumbledore asked about how everything was going he would have said no. In your story and in book 6, he says yes, but you also support it with why he has suddenly changed. which is very good, and this story totally rocks!

    Author's Response:

Thank you very much for taking the time!

"The old man smiled then, from his beard to his eyes." I agree; it's probably not the best way to put it. I think the beard might be throwing it.

"The angle of Dumbledore’s head was such that his eyes again met Harry’s." This is probably a consequence of my technical writing. I like math, you see.

I'm glad you like my portrayal of Harry (and my story!).

Wow! Really great story with an interesting and unique twist on Occlumency. Usually, these stories have Harry deciding he was wrong and immediately mastering Occlumency. In your story, Harry's got some maturing to do as well. I just can't wait to read more:)

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you like my interpretation. I hope you enjoy the fourth chapter, what with maturing Harry and all!

Yay! A refreshing Snape/Harry occlumency perspective! It even makes sense! And you are a very good writer, and I completely love this story.
