Thanks for a wonderful story! I must admit that you are as "bad" and "annoying" as JKR writing about politics and Malfoys getting away with almost everything! That spanking wasn't even close to being enough punishment for all the awful things he said and did!!!!!!!!!!! But you really did this in a convincing form - because that obviously is the way things work in the world of HP... That is the reason after all for the rise of dark wizards - even in our real world...
Well, I sincerely hope you'll write many, many sequels to this plot of yours! I love it and enjoy it greatly!!! Thank you!

Author's Response: I know, but Sev went out on a limb there even doing that, unfortunately.  But someday Draco will get his, and end up in Azkaban like his miserable father.  And it's a sad fact that politics cause some of the worst upheaval in the world and people are ruled by them and people like the Malfoys really do get away with everything because money and power talks.  I shall be posting the sequel to this one as soon as I finish GP and the Heir to Prince Manor.  Thanks for your awesome review!

Looooooooooooooooooooooooved it! Brilliant stuff! Pleeeeeeeeease give us a "Goblet of Fire" rewrite too! Oh pleeeeeeease! Plus, Sev has his own demons and mistakes to face (Sirius, Voldemort) and everything!^^

Author's Response: Yes, he does.  Well, the summer will be filled with new adventures and surprises and everything.  Oh and there will be no more spankings involved, as both Remus and Sev agree that time is past and will have alternate consequences for misbehavior and a lot of the trouble the kids get into in the sequel will not be of their own making.  But currently, I'm still working on the sequel to NA, and haven't yet fleshed out the plot of the new fic, which will be called Hide Yourself Down In the Bayou.

Wow damn! Didn't see THAT coming. However, IMO deducting points and a verbal lashing would have been sufficient. And poor Remus! *Sniff*

Author's Response: Except it was the end of the year and no more points could have been deducted.  Plus, this was Draco, who considers it carte blanche to do whatever he wants, and now has no respect for Severus any more since Sev is not a loyal Death Eater, he wouldn't listen to Severus if Severus came up with all the reasons in the world why he shouldn't have done what he did, he would've let it roll right off of him.  And Sev intended that to be a final lesson not only to Dreaco, but to Lucius as well that the Malfoys no longer run Slytherin House, and aren't the top dog anymore, as far as he's concerned.  Plus, he was very angry that Remus was railroaded into resigning and it shouldn't have happened, but it did because of the Malfoy influence.  And Draco had a direct hand in it, so Sev lost his temper over it.  Mostly because Draco was not even sorry for what he did, had he shown a smidgen of remorse or even said I'm sorry, Sev wouldn't have laid a hand on him, he would've given him detention as usual.  But it was Draco's smug attitude and gloating and celebrating the fact that he ruined a good man's career and reputation that pushed Sev over the edge.

    Two words: Bigger picture

I understand Severus, really, I do. After my Mom died I basically took over caring for my then 11 year old sister. She often got into trouble etc. because, like all goddam teenagers, she was impulsive, reckless, fun-loving and YOUNG. I'd not have had it any other way and now she is a mature 18 year old who has never been spanked, reduced to tears by punishment or otherwise. Only once, in a fit of rage, did I strike her but I apologised for it at least 100 times.

I think Severus being a tad obsessed with rules, discipline & control is in character (Remember his rant about Harry in "The Prince's Tale"?) and you use it well, very well in fact. But once again I cannot bring myself to support this kind of punishment. Much of such aggression springs from fear of losing a beloved child, I know that. But neither my Mom (Who is now in heaven) nor my Dad ever hurt me or terrified me. No child should fear those who gave them life, no matter how much they are in trouble.

    Author's Response:

Severus is obssessed with rules and discipline because it is so necessary for the young wizards to have them in order to be safe with their magic and with each other.  But I think that my Severus is much gentler and kinder than in the books.  In a way, he backed himself into a corner when he issued the ultimatum back after the Hogsmeade incident--If you get into anymore trouble, I'll take a leaf from your godfather's book and give you a spanking.  He intended that as a threat only--something he never figured he'd have to carry out, since he trusted Harry to listen to him and not get into trouble.

But Harry did get into trouble--the worst sort of trouble and therefore in the name of consistent discipline and always doing what you say, he had to punish him that way.  Also, please remember that Sev did NOT like doing that, even Harry noticed it, he had to force himself to do it, and afterwards he says to Harry in a voice that is very close to tears, "Don't EVER make me do that again."  He also thinks to himself that that was the last time he will ever punish his son that way--since Harry is too old for it and he hates doing it anyway, though of course he isn't going to tell his son that for awhile, and Harry is not afraid of his father, indeed he loves Severus.  The one he really feared was Vernon.

And like I said before, this is characteristic of a rather strict parent like Severus, and it is not something I personally advocate.

Huzzah, Sirius is free! Love how you wrote Sirius btw, so funny!^^

Author's Response: Yeah, I couldn't let him stay in jail for something he didn't do and I wanted Sev to rescue him, as a way to kind of bury the hatchet.  Plus, I see Sirius as a jokster mostly.

Superb chapter! Amazing drama! See the bigger picture, Sev, and practice lenience for once! Even the Caesars knew the value of clemency for God's sake!^^

Author's Response: Well, Severus is hot tempered and he has done a remarkable job of not exploding so far, considering the danger all of the kids put themselves into.  They could have so easily been killed.

    Good one!!! Mmmmmmmm, angry Severus!

Peter a shape-slipper, now THAT is an interesting twist!^^

Author's Response: Yes, I wanted to make him a bit more of nasty character than in the books, as you can see he's still a coward, but he's a sly nasty coward!

WHOA...here it comes! Superb chapter as always. Esp. loved the rescue plan! Now on to the drama's finest confrontation!

Author's Response: Again, yet another time when Harry breaks rules, granted it is for the best cause, but still he does drive Sev up the wall, it's very frustrating for the poor guy to try to keep his impulsive son safe when he keeps throwing himself into danger.  But Buckbeak was saved and by teamwork, which was the major point here.

    Wow...just wow...

First things first: I understand Sev's anger but the punishment was IMO way over the line.

Also, he should follow his own rules first before demanding absolute obedience (I.E. Swearing). Like the parent who wallops his kid for smoking but is a chain-smoker himself. Be just & fair, Sev, it'll get ya much further than drilling and overly sadistic punishment.

    Exquisite chapter as always!

Author's Response: Actually, in Sev's viewpoint he was being fair, since Harry knew why he was forbidden to go into Hogsmeade and he deliberately went anyhow, in direct defiance of his rules.  So the grounding and what went with it was the only way he could be certain his son learned to listen to him.  The spanking was really more of an embarrassment tactic than anything else, Harry even thinks to himself that it really didn't hurt, but Severus was making a point--Harry acted like an impulsive child--therefore he gave him the punishment of a child.  Harry also broke Severus's trust by disobeying him and that is not something Sev forgives easily.  Many times when my parents grounded me or my sisters for something it included extra chores, besides the normal ones, an early bedtime, and loss of privileges (like Quidditch), because grounding is not meant to be fun.

Oh damn. Things are getting tense. Much as I understand Remus here, I totally agree with Aria. I'd have held my chin up too and IMO Moony ran out of arguments there and dished out punishment as a last resort. Abusing authority, that's sad.

Author's Response: Well, actually Remus does have a valid point--the Malfoys ARE a very influential family, especially with Fudge toadying to Lucius like he does and Remus knows as a werewolf he can be tossed aside like that if the Ministry demands he be removed from his job, so he is trying to protect her as best he can.  Plus, she was being a little mouthy and Remus got a bit hot under the collar.
