Oh wow! Everybody's got a worst fear! I'm so anxious to see how this works out! If the three of them can band together to save Harry, and if Severus or Remus will tell Sirius the secret! Great writing!

Author's Response: Thanks!  You'll have to just wait and see to get all your questions answered.  LOL  Thanks so much for such an enthusiastic review!  :o)

Great chapter again! Boy, you could cut the tension with a knife there; Sirius not knowing what's happened since he fell through the Veil and still thinking of Severus as an enemy not to be trusted, Severus feeling anger towards Sirius and himself and his own terrible grief and remorse, and poor Remus trying to keep them both from exploding and working together. I don't envy his job! It'd be easier to get a saber-toothed tiger to get along with a T-rex.

I'm so worried for Harry. How awful to think that Voldemort has his soul. I can only hope that he's all right.

I did love all the interaction between our heroes, though, tense as it was. I think a big part of Sirius' problems with Severus stem just from the fact that Severus is Slytherin and in Sirius' own personal experience, he doesn't believe any Slytherin can be trusted. His own family certainly weren't good examples for him.

But hopefully, Remus made a little headway when he told Sirius how much Severus had sacrificed, even to the point of being tortured. That should give Sirius something to think about. Goodness knows, it sounds like they're all going to need to be able to trust one another and co-operate if they're going to save Harry and get out safely.

And please, they've just got to find a way to either bring Sirius back, or to let him pass on to the afterlife with Lily and James. It sounds so horrible for him to just be stuck like that.

And I was so touched at how Sirius was horrified to think that he'd been hurting Harry with his visions. It was so like Sirius to want to help, and not even consider that it might be mis-interpreted. And I do believe that Sirius will love Harry even if he does find out that Severus is his father. He might have some trouble accepting it at first, but I think he'd come around. Hope I'm not wrong about that!

    Author's Response:

Thanks Kristeh!  I love that you could feel the tension.  Our three men are certainly tense, aren't they?  And yeah, Remus has a lot of work to do.

Harry is up next, as is Voldy...or something resembling Voldy that is...

I agree with you about Sirius having issues with Slytherins in general, because of his family history.

I'm glad you're feeling for Sirius.  The poor guy's certainly suffered in his little corner of non-existence.  Thanks for the review.

This story is terrifying. Just so you know. I feel like I'm floating in the abstract when I read it and it reminds me so much of how I imagined the veil to be in canon. You've described it so brilliantly... I don't know how you come up with this stuff.

Okay. Sirius. I have no idea why everyone is getting so tetchy about his characterization in this story. All he knows is how Harry was treated by Severus during his Occlumency lessons. Am I right? He's never known Severus as James has known him--so of course, he'd be blindsighted (I think that's the word I want to use...lol).

Some cool things I noticed: You mentioned Sirius' restriction even beyond the veil. I like how you mirrored his frustration at not being able to go where he pleases. He's always been strongwilled, and I can imagine he'd be just as irritated at being held captive.

Also, I loved the poignancy of this line: "Sirius almost smiled at the thought of his Harry…and his first girlfriend, until his gaze rested on Snape. His lips were mashed together so tightly, they were paling toward ivory."

**It could almost have been missed, but you used the subtle possessive of 'his Harry' here, and I adored it. The thought of Sirius smiling sadly at the thought of Harry's first girlfriend--and not being able to be there for his godson during such a time just completely tore me up. People don't give Sirius enough sympathy.

The last line of this chapter was chilling. You do that so well. But I bet you know that, huh... You do it on *purpose* don't you! *points accusingly*

Tabitha, this is wonderful. I can see this wrapping up in a handful of chapters, just as you want it to. Write at your own pace when the mood strikes you. Crucio is awesome, but this story is just so, so beautiful and drenched with all sorts of emotion. You should be proud of it :)

Oh, and my foot is fine now. LOL. In fact, I power walked two miles about an hour ago...

    Author's Response:

Glad you enjoyed it this round.

Yep, Sirius knows nothing of Severus except that he's treated Harry terribly for years.  And that's enough to make Sirius hate him.

Glad you got the parallels.  They were fun to explore a bit.

His Harry.  Yay that you noticed that.  I loved that as well.  Sirius truly does love Harry so much.

I do do those last lines on purpose.  They're fun.

Glad you're foot is okay.  :o)

PLEASE PLEASE UPDATE AGAIN SOON! This is realy good. I wonder how Sirius will react if and when he finds out the truth.

Author's Response: I am guessing Sirius would not react well.  Hee hee.  But how fun it would be.

That was so good, this is my favorite chapter. Poor Remus is playing a peacemaker,I feel sorry for him. I don't like how Sirius treats our Sev, he doesn't deserve it. Can't wait for your next update!!!!

Author's Response: Your favorite chapter?  YAY.  Poor Sirius and Severus.  Both of them need to learn to trust one another.  Will it ever happen?  :oP  Thanks for the review.

I can't decide after this chapter who's more "maniacal" - Voldemort or YOU, OE! Man, what a chapter and to leave it where you did! (Evil, evil, evil...)

The other thought that entered my head (being the ridiculous person I am) is that the other subtitle for this chapter should be "Where's Harry?" - kind of along the lines of the "Where's Waldo?" books. Our knights valiantly look for a way to go rescue our boy and is he here or is he there as they wander the mists.

The dialogue and interaction of all three characters were brilliantly crafted. The tension was just the right amount between Sirius and Severus without being over the top. Remus' tension as the two interacted was incredibly palpable as well. What a hard, hard place for him to be in....reuniting with an old friend while trying to preserve the tenuous relationship with the new one.

You didn't even need them to verbally interact for them to do so anyway. When very occasionally Severus' stone facade would hiccup and his feelings would show regarding Harry, Sirius (and Remus) was right there to notice. Why did Sirius think that Harry and Dumbledore banished Voldemort's soul? And why was he able to know that in the first place? I know....all will be revealed eventually.

While Severus' guilt haunts him about how he failed Harry in seeing this happening to him and thinking Sirius' aid is required in rescuing him, I have some doubts about Harry. He thinks his dad and Remus hate him, and Sirius was trying to kill him. What if Harry won't reach out to any of our trio in their attempts to reach him. Could Voldemort have tainted his reality that much? *shiver*

The last scene is making me wonder if what the trio is seeing or hearing is reality. Voldemort is the ultimate head tripper - he will throw anything out at them to slow them down or stop them. I can't imagine the pain Severus would feel upon hearing Harry's screams again.

I have a theory...Remus (though protesting about it) and Severus are not telling Sirius about Harry's true parentage but I think he's about to find out anyway in the worst possible way imaginable. It would be just like Voldy to throw it out there to wave in front of Sirius in order to divide the group.

    Who gets a hug?

Sirius...for trying to help Harry and feeling so guilty when he discovers his attempts frightened Harry instead. And having been alone and trapped in that awful void.

Remus....for having to keep the truth from Sirius and the pain he feels whenever Severus snaps at him (it hurts even though it's a front). And when he wants to assure Severus that Harry will always be his, and Sirius can't change that, yet has to be quiet.

And most of all Severus...for his overwhelming guilt for feeling he failed Harry in every way imaginable and when broke his promise to never abandon him.

    More chocolate please. *sniff, sniff*

Author's Response: Wow.  That was a long review, Cathy!  I'm so glad you like the dialogue.  It is immensely fun to write.  :o)  You have some very wonderful ponderings in this review, but of course, I don't want to steer anyone too close to the answers.  :oP  They all need a hug, it's true.  So thank you for giving one to each of our knights.  Sigh.  Will they ever learn to get along or will it be too late for our Harry.  *evil cackle*

Oh, good gads, you are killing us. Great imagery. I love Sirius but I want to smack him upside the head.

This is going to be a wild ride.

Author's Response: Thanks.  Glad you liked the imagery.  LOL  Don't smack Sirius!  He just needs a little more information and maybe he wouldn't be such a meanie.  LOL
