Reviews For Lily's Charm: The Gift
I love this fanfiction and the previous one. Severus is here so... caring. And so unsure. So is Harry. It's really fantastic. Author's Response: Thanks! And thanks for reviewing. :o)
A few questions: Is this beach the same one they flew over, near Snape Manor? How does Severus customarily dress in this story - as described in JKR's books, as depicted in the films, or your own idea? This is a minor point, but I visualize stories as I read, and the clothing description at the outset here differed from my mental image. I need to recalibrate. It seems unusual for someone like Harry to remain so relatively unscathed psychologically after all he suffered with the Dursleys. To what do you attribute his particular resilience, in your version of events? Or are the effects of his upbringing more significant than we realize?
Author's Response: Thanks!
Their conversation makes it easy to see the depth of love between them as father and son. It still makes me sorry for all of the years that were wasted, but neither will undervalue their relationship in the future. You made this so realistic that it is hard to remember this is only fiction. Great job! Author's Response: Thanks Mom. This was one of my hardest chapters yet. I'm glad it came out as realistic as I was hoping for. :o)
Lovely interactions between father and son, and I'd be interested to see what Harry has to say to Tobias' portrait. Author's Response: Thank you Kristeh. Severus is a very strong person, I think. Not altogether the nicest person in the world, but he has to have a lot of strength, to pull off the things he did. Thanks for the review. :o)
Great work on this chapter. I think Harry has a much better understanding of his father's discipline issues now. It was also good for them to realize that there never will be the classic father son discipline situation between them with juvenile grounding and temper tantrums. Great work. The sand castle comments were also really great since readers have seen the other memory from the beach. I also particularly loved Harry's question about if James wanted his own family- stupid me hadn't even considered that! Hope the muses get back to work fast and make things easy for you! Author's Response: Thanks Waterleaves. I"m glad you enjoyed the chapter so much. And yep, these two will never be like a regular father and son, and Harry I think, is finally accepting that. It does make what they have any less, so it's okay. It's actually much better, in so many ways. Thanks for reviewing. Oh, and yeah, I enjoyed the sand castle bits and I'm glad you noticed the tie-back to the previous chapter. And James was a great person in the end there, wasn't he? :o)
As someone who experienced a slightly abusive childhood I understand the need to break that chain. Author's Response: Thank you, Fluff. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and yes, breaking the cycle is something that needed to be explored here. Severus really struggles so much, but he's so strong. It was very hard to write, but very satisfying as well.
I hope HArry gives Tobias' portrait a piece of his mind next chapter. And as wizarding portraits can talk, that should be a very interesting scene. I noticed you changed Harry's jeans for trunks...good decision. I think this was wondeful, as I told you yesterday, Tab. Sev's explanations and HArry's remorse for pressing his dad's buttons were spot on. Harry is such a lovely soul. Lots of kids revel in the fact that they can upset their parents, but Harry feels devastated. That has to make Severus feel even more proud of his lovely son. Harry is an amazing young man, and Sev might not think it, but he is one half of the equation that makes up HArry Potter. Those years of psychological abuse did not even change Harry for the worse, nor did the Dursleys. And the reaffirmation of their love for each other was beautiful. They are both revelling in the presence of the other in their life and the mental fortitude that enables Sev to ignore his vicious heritage makes him an even more remarkable man than we already know the double agent to be. So glad you didn't consign it to the crapper, Tab...it's good to have you back. ~Les~ Author's Response: Thanks Les! And thanks for helping me through my angst. Harry is a lovely soul, isn't it. He's just good. That's all there is to it. That's what makes him so fun to write. Of course, meanness is also fun to write. LOL Glad you liked the chapter, Les! :o)
Also, I'm sorry about your loss. Thank you for continuing to write, though. Author's Response: Adventures await next chapter. We have lots more vacation to go. LOL I'm glad you're so excited about the chapter. Thanks so much for reviewing and thank you for your kind words. :o) |
