I love long chapter's and this is long and well written. Its strange i don't know how you do it but one moment its all ladeda alls well with the world and BOOM black hole of despair, lol. And its so unexpected. Harry's in his own little world, obviously numb refusing to see anything bad firmly in the land of denial, phasing in and out, not himself??? that's not a hint is it? leading to some sinister conclusion or plot line... Ohhhh more more more.

Author's Response: LOL  I am chuckling here.  Black hole of despair...  I do so love to twist you all around with la di da and then shove the angst down your throats.  It's just fun.  It wouldn't be LC without a bit of that.  :oP  And as for sinister plotlines...well, do you really expect anything else?  :oP   I'm so glad you enjoyed it and the long length especially.  It's my longest chapter yet.  YAY

How do you DO that so brilliantly? I'm a broken record, I admit it. But time and time again, you write a chapter that takes me through such a myriad of emotions. Let's start with....

Irritation (is that considered an emotion?) I felt Ron's when Harry kept getting sidetracked on his way to see Ginny in the Great Hall. Then Severus' when he listened to Remus' recounting of Harry's behavior in his class, Severus' again when Harry was *late* to class, Harry's irritation with his dad on getting called on his behavior with Remus, and Ron's irritation turned to full blown anger at the Gryffindor party with Harry's behavior at the dinner.

And then I had the huge feelings of unease so many times. Can we start with the tagline of "alientation leads to destruction" for starters? The thread of unease through this entire chapter was so palpable. All the characters suffered from it at times from what I can tell, but it really stood out when Remus spoke to Severus (that image of him with his head in his hands was so sad to me). And the entire dinner and Harry's behavior made my skin crawl. It was SO not Harry to not mention his Dad or stand up to Scrimgeour. I just don't think it was merely being overwhelmed with the scenario either. Harry's realization of how he had treated his close relationships began to sink in finally and I wonder just what that had to do with the final scene in the chapter. But more on that momentarily.

I really felt sad for Severus and Remus too at certain moments. For Remus in his classroom (as I said earlier) but for Severus too at the end of that dinner. When Harry could barely notice his flame and he was so distant from him. And when Severus told him to sleep in the tower...I thought that a bit odd. Was it just so he wouldn't have to come back from being up late? Or something more, as in he was so frustrated with Harry that he needed some distance?

Let me not forget the good humor moments too. That whole exchange between Draco and Harry in potions class as they tried to top each other in niceness to the detriment of the other students watching was a riot. And then Severus telling Harry "enough" in his head made me laugh out loud. And while I don't think you meant it to be funny, I actually found Severus' very fast retort to Narcissa about not paying Harry for his testimony to be amusing too. I love Sev's snappy quick tempered retorts.

I felt relief as Ginny FINALLY got through to Harry. With every pitiful excuse Harry was giving for his "not" bad behavior Ginny had the perfect comeback (and when she addressed him as "Harry Snape" that just made me smile - go get him girl!). But then Harry zoned out again, as Ginny quickly noticed and I didn't think that boded well and I was right. But I forgot as I got the is cute image of snuggly Ginny and Harry. I wondered at first in his current headspace he was going to push for more than that from Ginny and I did a huge sigh of relief that he did not.

AND THEN YOU HAD TO STAB ME IN THE HEART WITH THAT EVIL CLIFFIE! Dang you woman! Is Harry's behavior and remorse tied together with this? That tagline would suggest so to me. And why the heck won't he wake up?

And why didn't Remus and Tonks show up to the dinner? And DID Harry take that dreamless sleep potion his Dad told him to? I'll bet he didn't. I'm dying here. I know, I know...you typed your fingers to the bone to give us 10,000+ words and I beg for me. I can't help it. I need to know! *whimpers pitifully*

So many people need hugs I haven't a clue who to dish one out to. Can I split one three ways? Remus needed one in the classroom, Sev needed one after the dinner, but Ginny deserves one getting through to Harry.

    Author's Response:

Ginny should get a hug, and of course Harry is not that crazy, to push for something from Ginny I mean. That would just be icky.  Hmmm...did I say Harry was crazy.  That was definitely a slip of the fingers of keys.  Yep.

I'm glad you liked cute Harry and Ginny snuggling together.  Ginny has a definite way with him.  I think some others thought that perhaps she should have been angrier but I just really don't imagine her to be an angry person.  She has loved Harry for years and is more concerned at this point about what's wrong with him than in finding fault.  Besides there are plenty of other people to be angry with him right now and she could clearly see that angry wasn't getting through to him.

Yes, I am evil.  Back to Dark queen status, I supppose.  *sigh*  And, everything is tied together.  Always!  You'll have to wait and see about Remus and Tonnks, but I will tell you that while they were not at the dinner, neither were they together during that time.  Evil, I know.

I am tipping and tapping as fast as I can.  I knew you wouldn't be satisfied.  LOL

I really enjoy writing the Malfosy, especially draco and Harry together.  I love narcissa as well, as you know.   Still my kindred spirit, that one.  Anyone else who does a double take at that...I am smirking at you.  :oP

Let's examine this carefully now...would Severus really tell Harry point blank to sleep in the tower?  I very much doubt Severus could ever be so frustrated as to send his son away.  Send his son away?!  He JUST almost lost him for the second time.  *innocent smile*

Remus is definitely in need of a hug as well.  There is much, much more going on with him than meets the eye.

Everyone is irritated in this chapter at some point, except perhaps Remus who is just sad.

And the tagline applies to more than just Harry....

I will continue typing and Hey, I didn't kill Tonks yet, so where's my blue-haired girl?  :oP

Damn, this chapter was good. You threw my emotions into the blender and chopped them all up. Of course, I loved the scene between Harry and Severus, because I'm a sucker for Sev being all dad-like and stern and concerned. But you knew that, right?

I thought Harry's contradictions and moodiness was very spot-on for a boy his age, but now you've got me all worried by that last scene... Voldemort's supposed to be dead!!! Who could be tormenting him? Who?! I got chills when you slapped me in the face with that scene. Here I was, all warm and cozy from the previous scene between Ginny and Harry and then BAM. Right in my face.

    Brilliant final scene, though.

Now, I'm officially dying to find out what happens next. But, pshht, you wrote over 10,000 words, so I guess that pretty much excuses you from updating for a while. LOL.

By the way, I adore how you describe Harry's emotions--confusion, embarassment. I can feel what *he* feels. It's awesome.

Sorry for the short review. I'm having the week from hell. Just know I adored this like mad.

    Author's Response:

Well first of all, I'm sorry you're having a bad week.  And I never emailed you back.  Sorry.  :o(

I'm glad you liked the chapter though and don't worry about a short review.  I love them all.  Harry is definitely full of contradicting emotions and he is pretty moody.  LOL  And yep, Voldy is dead.  Hmm...very suspicious I suppose.  Why is Harry screaming then?  All very confusing.  LOL

I enjoyed the Sev/harry moments here.  No fluff.  LOL

It won't be quick for an update.  And yep, this was actually my longest chapter yet.  Whew.

Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the chapter.  Hope you're week gets better.  :o)

Oh, you just had to ruin the happiness moment.

People tend to forget that Harry is still a boy. After all he has been through, it would be amazing if he didn't bask in some of the glory.

I am sure that his friends and Severus, once he hit him over the head to get his attention, will straighten him.

And, you had to ruin the happiness mode. Is Voldie still around.

I hope you are feeling better.

    Author's Response:

    Voldy is dead. :o)

You're so right.  Harry is just a boy.  He can't be perfect all the time, and really I think we all sometimes just expect too much of him.  I hope he can get all straightened out, now that he has something clearly going on, especially.  Sorry to ruin the happines.  LOL  It wouldn't be LC if I didn't though.  :oP

Great chapter again! The beginning is so sad. It's obvious what a terrible strain Severus is under, trying to spy and do what he can to save people, and yet know that he can't save them all. And knowing what's coming up in a few days just makes it all even more sad. Soon Severus won't even have his family to go home too for comfort.

I also enjoyed how Ron and Harry warned one another not to hurt the girls. I can see it being a little awkward at times, with Ron and Ginny being siblings, and as Harry said, he and Hermione are like brother and sister, too. But I have faith in both Ron and Harry, and I think all's well on that front.

Now, I don't know what to make of Harry's moods. It could be that he's just letting all the attention go to his head...and while not admirable, I suppose it's understandable because he is young, and receiving all this positive attention would have to be a heady experience, especially since so many times before it's seemed like the school (or the majority of it) was against him.

But somehow, I'm thinking there may be a little more to this situation than just an over-inflated ego. Harry has had moments of 'inexplicable tetchiness' as he decribed it earlier...and so has Sev for that matter. Possibly Harry (and Sev) are just tired and still worn out and need time to recover, but I also have to wonder if Harry hasn't really been affected in some way by the connection with Voldemort, the time in the void, and the 'soul battle'.

Well, I do have a feeling that Severus won't be happy about the attitude, but I also hope that if there is a true problem, that he can see that and they can figure out how to help Harry.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

I really love the flashbacks you show us...it brings the first war to life, and gives a well-rounded picture of our characters. I could imagine what a terrible time it was when Voldemort was strong and powerful and launching attacks, and how brave Severus truly was to risk so much in the chance of saving innocent lives. He really is a hero, and deserves more credit than he's ever gotten.

I can imagine how surprised Sirius and Remus were, too, when James couldn't hide his concern for Severus, though Remus seemed to adjust more quickly, as always. I was annoyed with Sirius, but I can also understand why it is so hard for him to trust. All the Slytherins in his own family, the people he grew up and knows inside out, have proven to be untrustworthy. Still, he was being incredibly stubborn and I just wanted to shake him.

I loved how Severus steered Harry away from Draco. It was just so protective, and I love protective Sev. Curious to see what's going to happen with Draco and the Malfoys now.

I imagine all that attention is a bit overwhelming for Harry, but at least it's good for people to be supporting him for once. Like Minerva said, he's usually having to deal with negative attention.

I really enjoyed all the verbal sparring with Scrimgeour. I can just see Severus glowering, Harry being politely bland, and Scrimgeour inwardly seething and outwardly trying to stay friendly.

    It was an awesome chapter!

Another lovely chapter! I really do love how Harry and Severus' relationship has developed, how close they are, and I especially love the storm and flame imagery. It seems a particularly poignant way to communicate, when actual words just won't do.

You write Harry and Ginny so well. They are a perfect couple, just made for each other.

I can completely understand Severus' sternness with Narcissa and his indifference to the whole Malfoy situation. Sometimes you just want to tell them, "Well, you made your bed; now you can lie in it."

But I do think Harry is right to want to help Lucius...after all, Severus would have died without him, and he didn't betray them. I'm so impressed with Harry's ability to empathise with Draco too. Many adults wouldn't be able to, and he's still only sixteen. But Harry's a great kid.

Love the ending, too, with Harry and Sev. I can't wait to read some more and get caught up, but it is late here, and I'm tired so I think I'll have to wait til tomorrow, but I'm soo looking forward to it!

I've said this before, but I'll keep on saying it - I love the full range of emotions you can take me on in one chapter. From Severus' grief at the events in the Muggle village in the flashback which gripped my heart, to his quick comebacks to Remus that made me laugh out loud, I am constantly on the emotional rollercoaster with you. Tis much fun!

So now we know where Harry gets his mother hen instincts from when James tries taking care of Severus upon his return. And I loved the scene of Lily, Severus and baby Harry. My muse is going nuts with that image.

Who didn't love how Severus outstepped Scrimgeour at every turn, and his witty retort to Remus. I love that guy....love, love, love.

And Harry's big head. Well, I commented on that to you personally and I'm in the camp of "what the heck is wrong with Harry that is head is getting so big?" Voldy's done something to him...I just feel it in my bones.

I'm waiting on Ginny to start hexing the girls surrounding Harry and fawning all over him. I wouldn't make a redhead mad. Nope....

Poor Remus. He certainly didn't deserve that from Harry. Is there going to be a talk between him and Severus about this?

I slump to the ground at your feet and beg your forgiveness over the short review. My muses are screaming at me over a certain image that I mentioned previously.

Remus gets the hug. He needs it after that class, poor guy.

    Author's Response:

That's all right.  Slack-cutting, remember?  ;o)  I love emotions since I am a Hufflepuff, you know.  Glad you enjoy my roller coasters.

You go get started on that lovely artwork.  My muses may need it later.

I love Severus as well.  Adore him.  Yes, I do.   Especially playing off Remus.  Adore them both.  But you know that already, don't you.  ;o)

Harry's head is uncharacteristically large, isn't it?  hmmm.  It does make you wonder, I suppose.

Ginny is up next as is a talk between a certain big-headed adolescent and his dad.  You know, it's a very good thing Severus doesn't hate Remus anymore. LOL  And yeah, Poor Remus indeed.  He does need a hug.  Maybe a brown-haired Tonks will be there to give him one...  YAY!

Ohhh dear! Harry get yourself back together! I'm very annoyed with Harry right now but I'm sure its all for good reason. I can't wait to see where this goes- excellent stuff!

Author's Response: Thanks Waterleaves!  I'm so glad you liked it, even with Harry's big ole head.  And I am thinking most people are pretty annoyed with Harry right about now...or soon at least.  LOL  Thanks for the review!  :o)

Tee hee! Yay! I'm actually reviewing the day that the chapter was updated! And right after I read it!! And it was magnificent, by the way! I loved it!

I do love these moments between Sev and James (and Lily and Harry too!) from back in the day. They're sad and sweet and I just want to grab everyone into a great big hug after reading it. Poor Sev. (It was funny that he was sprayed with pepper spray though!) And poor James for wanting to help but being unable to do anything. Poor Lily too, for needing to worry endlessly after her husband and his fate. And poor baby Harry, he's so adorable, snotty-nosed and all, curled up on Daddy's shoulder. Aww...

I must say that the most hilarious moments of this chapter were when Harry, Sev, and Dumbles were in the Headmaster's office with Scrimgeour. Loved it! But I'm nervous about Harry testifying about Lucius...I have a feeling that if Harry's the main reason Luci's let free that the horrid man won't care and continue to do what is convenient for him (probably being a DE) and make Draco do something horrid to Harry in turn. By the way, will we get to see our favorite pansy of a boy blond Slytherin soon? I kinda miss him.

I do wonder too, what his (and all the other Slytherins) opinion is about Harry and his defeating Voldie (with Sev doing most of the work, that is). Oohh...Luna would be a great point of view to bring in here too...I can just imagine her scoffing at all the girls fawning over Harry, making some comment or another. Love Luna. Bring back those blonds!! Please.

I agree with everyone who's said (and if you haven't said it yet, you're thinking it) that Harry needs to be brought back to earth. His ego is defiantly swollen...and it's a shame. I believe that Sev'll have him back to his proper place soon enough, if Hermione, Ginny and Ron don't do it first. And kudos to Remus for trying. I feel sorry for that werewolf. *sigh*

But then again...Sev is calling Remus, Remus now!! Yay! I almost though that it would never happen! *giggles*

I'm still feeling apprehensive about this dinner, but if all the Weasleys, Neville (and I assume Hermione) get to come along; along with Remus and Dora, it shouldn't be that bad...right? I'm nervous again...rats! Because what if Harry does act like a prat?! That'll suck, and probably happen, with the way things are going so far. Tone it down a bit, Harry!!

And I'm curious to see what Scrimgeour's real reasons are behind wanting to make a memorial at Godric's Hollow. That man's too slippery for his own good.

Question: What was Sev referring to when he asked Harry if he wanted to discuss Christmas? Did that come up somehow within their meeting with Scrimgeour?

Ok, I'm done, and need to get some more studying in...I'm reaching towards the end! But, you're not, right? You've still got lots and lots of chapters to write for LC, and once The Gift is done (which won't be for another couple years) you can write some more Remus/Dora shorts as well as a prequel with Sev and James...and then you can work on that Pre-Hogwarts fic. See? You've got plenty more to do, and keep up the good work! These chapters are defiantly the best part of my day! Thanks for updating so soon!! Until next chapter!

    Author's Response:

Oh, PK!  YAY.  I'm so glad you liked it!  But before I go any further, I have to admit, that I am not a huge Luna fan.  I don't think we'll see her here.  Sorry.

Glad you like the flashbacks.  They are some of my favorite bits.

Draco is up next chapter in Potions class with Harry and you'll just have to wait and see about old Lucius, but there isn't much hope of him becoming a Death Eater again.  He loves himself too much to make the same mistake twice.  I don't think he realized the first time how degrading it would be to a minion of the Dark Lord. :oP

Harry does need to be brought back to earth and just why ON earth is acting like a total prat?  Just the praise of his peers or something more insidious?  Hmmm

Sev did call him Remus, but he sorta had to there.  Didn't want to back down from a challenge.  LOL

Poor Remus though.  Harry was pretty mean.  *sigh*

The banquet is up next as well.  YAY

Scrimgeour.  As per usual, you'll just have to wait and see.

Sev had mentioned Christmas earlier in the chapter and Harry got all quiet because he was thinking of Sirius.  Sev didn't press the issue b/c Dumbles was there.

I do have lots to do.  LOL  I had to chuckle at your list though.  Hee hee.  I could probably do a Remus/Tonks short now with Remus all bummed by Harry's rudeness.  Awww, poor Remus.  He needs a hug.  Glad you liked the chapter and you're on the downward sprint for finals, right?  Good luck and you are very welcome.  Thanks for the review!
