Fantastic. (I don't usually read on this cite, but since ff.net is being stupid, what the hay!)
I loved this installment of lily's charm. You have a very unique and amazing way of playing out terrible events in a realistic and emotionally trying way, and I love it. Sirius's death is unfortunate, but I do agree that it was something that needed to be dealt with, and you did more than just justice to the event. I loved Remus's profession in the last chapter. "I loved him". Truly heartbreaking. Harry's reactions as well are just what I would imagine. I really love Severus in this chapter, though. He has grown so much, even more so than Harry. And that's saying something!

A very realistic chapter, especially in terms of the regrets both Harry and Severus have about all the unfulfilled potential of their relationship with Sirius. It can be tempting in fiction to tie up loose ends too well, to have the old enemies reconcile before the finale, etc. but this so often does not happen in real life. Instead we are left with things we wish we had said or done after a death. Good job tying up loose ends from the previous couple of chapters as well (how much Severus understood about Harry's plans, etc.)

I still cannot get used to Severus expressing so much affection for Harry through physical gestures. He did this particularly much in this chapter, though he certainly had plenty of motivation.

Yes, there can still be a snow dog. It will just have to be made by Harry, Severus, and Remus. They might find it therapeutic.

    Author's Response:

Severus' overly touchiness has more to do with the fact that he was trying to reassure himself that Harry was all right.  It's got to be rather shocking that your child was only moments away from killing himself.  Also, I've established previously, that as a child who was denied love and affection for most of his life, Harry craves it.  I think most human beings crave physical touch, whether or not they realize it or are willing to admit it.  And Severus has grown to the point of unselfishness in regards to Harry that he can offer Harry what he needs.  And yes, since one of the people Harry loved most in the world has just died, I think Harry needed all the physical affection he can get.  Another thing to consider, is that Severus is well aware of just how easily such physical expressions of affection came to Sirius (at least my rendition of him), and it is quite plausible that Severus was unconsciously trying to fill that new void in Harry's life...  See the part in this chapter where Severus expresses silent delight that he has been able to fill one of Sirius' other roles--a person that Harry can talk to, to add to that plausibility.

I wanted to leave the recriminations there.  I am glad you liked it.  Guilt often comes with bereavemennt.

And yes, snowdogs would likely be very therapeutic for all of them.  Thanks for your review.

Okay, that's 2 chapters that have tugged my heartstrings and made me tearful...thanks:)
That was a great way to deal with Harry's mounting tension and grief. You just made Severus awesome and allowed Sirius to die a huge hero!
I'll just never get enough of your stories...or for that matter, your cohorts Jade and Leslie.

Author's Response: Thanks.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  Severus was wonderful to write this chapter.  Finally reaching his full potential as a father and as a friend.  And in general, as a person.  The entire impetus for the LC stories.  :o)

You are seriously depleting my supply of tissues!!!

So sad, yet this tragedy has brought Severus and Harry even closer. I really wish that Severus could have worked things out with Sirius before he died, but at least Harry now has some peace knowing that the animosity died along with Sirius.

Lovely chapter even though I bawled my eyes out! Oh my, I'm at work, and here I go again!

Please hurry my dear, because I'm sure that I'll have a good cry at Sirius'...sob...funeral....sob.

Author's Response: Thanks Dawn!  I love to make you cry.  :oD

This was so beautiful. Severus was wonderful. Even his anger was totally understandable and he would have been forgiven if he had succumbed to it. But no, he fought it back, realising that Harry is suffering enough already.

All of the finger-combing and the hugs, all the touching--he cannot get close enough to his son.

And Remus too needs the physicality of touch.

Beautiful...Sirius would be pleased, even with Severus

    Lesley~

Author's Response: Thanks Les!  I'm so glad you liked it!  It was such a fun chapter for write.  :oD  Yeah, Severus certainly did have a lot of reason to be angry, didn't he?  A normal reaction for a parent in this situation, I think. And yep, Remus needs that love too.  I think most of that Severus hugging was becasue Severus was so freaked out.  LOL  And plus, humans just need that I think, especially in the wake of grief like this.  And I agree.  Sirius would be pleased.  :o)

Oh, these last two chapters have just been heart-wrenching. Grief is so terrible. I was happy and relieved to see that Harry did, on his own, give up his idea to go after Sirius before he knew Severus was awake. He really has matured, but I think too it's more than that. Now Harry knows that he has someone who loves and needs him, someone who would grieve for him if he were lost, and I think that will help to keep him grounded and less inclined to rush off recklessly into danger. Of course Harry had his friends before, but they were comrades and co-adventurers. It's not the same as having a parent who loves you and trusts you to make wise decisions.

It's good that Harry is finally letting himself grieve for Sirius and to regret the lost opportunities. He needs to do that before he can heal. I'm happy Severus was there for him and that he acknowledged both how much Sirius' sacrifice meant to him and that he has his own regrets as well. It's very mature of him, and it shows that he's grown a lot, too, since accepting Harry as his son.

I'm glad they went to Remus, too. Sirius' loss is probably the hardest on him. He really does need his other friends to be with him now.

Excellent chapter as always! I'm looking forward to the next one.

Author's Response: Thanks Kristeh!  Harry is finally getting what it means to have a parent, I think.  And he's grown up quite a bit, I agree.  Only two two whole stories!  LOL  Sev too!  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  :)

Aw, Remus had a crush on a teacher. That's so sweet.

Loved the chapter, and thanks for sharing it. It was good that even Severus got to drink to Sirius' memory. They may not have gotten on in life, but his sacrifice meant a great deal to both Harry and Severus.

    Great job.

Author's Response: LOL  Poor Remus.  :oP  And thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!  Always appreciated.

Loved this chapter. It was sad, yet very heartwarming too.

It was good to see Severus react with love to Harry's grief-stricken "stupidity". He was angry as any parent would be, yet also filled with relief that Harry was alright. He tempered this with the love that he so obviously feels for Harry and was able to be supportive and help Harry see what could have happened and where he was thinking or rather, not thinking.

Interesting that both of them wished that they had treated Sirius better. Guilt is usually a component of grief.

    Liked the ending too.

Author's Response: Thanks!  I agree with the guilt part.  It's so hard to have to think of all you could have done differently when someone dies.  I'm glad you liked Severus' reactions here; they were fun to write.  And the end with Remus' little crush was fun too.  :oP
