Now here's a premise that hasn't been done before. I think this is one of the most likely motivations I've seen yet.
When I first read the summary I thought you were planning on having Snape take vengance on Harry by killing him with kindness, which I didn't quite get, but this stealing from James makes perfect sense.
I really hope you get a chance to finish this.
A friend once asked what I would do to get even with someone I hated. I told him that the best revenge would be to save the person's life (at personal risk to my own.) My friend was very confused and couldn't figure out the vengence. I told him - "just think - for the rest of his life, he will owe it to the one person who hates him and will never stop hating him."
In high school, in a "psy" discussion, everyone was asked to write down colors that they saw when they thought of an emotion. One of the emotions was hatred. Out of 30 people 29 wrote "red". I was the only one who wrote "black"
I am thinking that Severus would have written black also. Hopefully, he will see the boy (and the son of Lily) and forget about James.
I like this idea and the whole different universe thing makes sense. Thanks, I can't wait for more.

This story is so awesome, it's barely even started and I love it. I can hardly wait to see what happens next. Also we share a great deal of the same thinking, what you said about when Snape died is exactly what I thought, but I doubt I could have put it as well as you did into words.

I have a question though if you don't mind, does Snape eventually care about harry. I couldn't tell, sorry if i missed something.

You have a very strong unique voice in this. I feel that this prologue will be a truly fine addition to your story instead of too frequently, the 'necessary filler.' Good job, two thumbs up, and I can't wait to read some more.
