Reviews For Growing Pains
Author's Response: Thank you, I love putting humor into my stories, it lightens up the tension and everyone needs a good laugh now and again. There's another story, a prequel, that comes before Never Again, called Where Shadows Go that you could read after you finish this one, it's not complete but I think it's both sad and funny.
good for all 3 snape men Author's Response: Yes, they all did and it was lessons that were worth learning too!
Author's Response: Yes it is and it worked quite well!
The Tobias/Severus moment was brilliant! I felt so sad for poor Sev when he had a flashback, it was really upsetting. I understand that Tobias was furious at Harry’s actions, but he had no right to tell Sev how to raise his kid and talk that way to him. It’s a good thing Tobias realized what was happening to poor Sev, otherwise things could have gotten ugly if Tobias was still raving while he was in that state. It was a harsh realization, but it’s a good thing Tobias realizes what he put his son through and what he can be like. Now, he’ll try even harder not to lose his temper. Harry truly was a brat and deserves his punishment. Ron too, though I kinda pity him for having to face Molly’s wrath, lol. I love it when Harry gets comforted by his dad, it’s really sweet when he asks if his dad is still upset with him. I thought the end was really great too, when Sev saw Tobias comfort Harry, because he can see for himself that his dad has changed a lot from how he used to be. Thank Merlin! Author's Response: Even Sirius knows when to duck and run, LOL! And Sev's flashback was traumatic for both of them, because neither of them were expecting it. But that's how victims of years of abuse react sometimes when they're under stress, even when they think they've come to terms with what happened and have "put it behind them" so to speak, they can still have flashbacks or vivid dreams years later, even after therapy and counseling. My niece's husband is a psychologist and he told me of several cases in which that occured, which served as my model for Sev's reaction. The mind is a very powerful thing and it can be quite scary when it decides to act without conscious consent. But now Tobias will really try and watch what he says and how he says it, so some good came out of that episode. As for Harry, he is just a normal mischivous devil, and though he doesn't like it when Sev punishes him, he knows it's for his own good. And yes, Tobias is much better than he used to be with his grandson, thank goodness.
there terrible! now on to the next one! Author's Response: Yes, they are, for everyone!
Author's Response: Got that right, Sirius isn't parent material yet, but maybe someday, with a lot of help from whoever he marries, he might make a good dad, or at least a very fun one! And yes, the flashback part was very scary, neither one of them were expecting that, and there's really no way you can prepare for one. Sev's solution was typical for him, and Harry knows he is loved afterwards, which is what matters.
Good chapter. I just love little Harry. Author's Response: Yes, it did, since Harry really wasn't intending to hurt his grandfather or his uncle. And as Severus knows, it's not the spanking itself that hurts his son half as much as the fact that Harry knows he's done something terrible and disappointed his father so badly. And I wouldn't want to face Molly either, she's a dragon when she's mad, LOL! Thanks for the awesome review, Jade!
Author's Response: Yes, Tobias and Sev in a temper can be really scary! But even the best relationships, which theirs wasn't always, can have arguments. Thanks for reviewing.
Author's Response: If Tobias getting upset over the prank was valid then it shouldn't be surprising that he argued with Severus over a punishment. Before, when Severus punished Harry for the runaway panther incident, it was easy for Tobias to tell Severus, well, I'd have spanked him, but you punish him how you like, because he wasn't the focus of Harry's misbehavior. But now the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak, and Tobias loses it, and Sev becomes defensive, thinking his father is criticizing him as a parent, which is not something Tobias really should be doing, considering how he messed up in the first place. Keep in mind that the two have very different discipline methods--Toby's old fashioned, old school discipline, Severus is a bit more modern, uses alternative methods for the most part, and sometimes the two methods don't jive. As for the flashbacks, that actually is a common reaction to have for a victim of an abusive childhood. Severus tells Tobias he hasn't had one in a long time, but I've seen Vietnam vets go through the same thing, they don't get flashbacks for years and then suddenly something--a loud noise, thunder, whatever, will trigger one and it's like they were reliving it all over again, and all the progress they made is gone until it's over. That's what happened to Severus here, even though he has come to terms with his father and his past, there still are buried in his subconscious, pockets of fear and resentment, and under stress they'll emerge.
Author's Response: Yes I'd be running too! |
