Great chapter! I wish that Severus had listened to Harry from the start, but I’m glad he at least eventually did after a rocky start.

I'm very glad that Severus wasn't too harsh. Hopefully Harry will wait until he has more self-control to drink again. I liked the way Severus handled the situation and punished Harry. It seemed fair and just.

Author's Response: He will, believe me. I wouldn't be surprised if he never touches a drop again. That hangover and Sev's temper was definitely not worth it.  And Sev tries really hard to be fair even though he wasn't always in the past. He doesn't want to make an enemy of the son he just found.

This line was the best. it really shows how much Severus has changed.
"He was sick of shadows and blood, sick of watching and never acting, of pretending to be one with people who were coldblooded murderers and rapists and bloated with evil. It was time for the serpent to shed his skin, and be reborn anew."

I was right too, Sev was mad, but he was also fair. Excellent job!

Author's Response: Glad you liked that line.  I agree, Severus was fair.

Ohh boy! Severus in a temper is SCARY! But at least he let Harry explain and didn't haul off and hit him one.

Author's Response: Yes, he really is but he can show restraint when he feels like it.

Hmm. Speaking of a first time with alcohol--and really overdoing it--seems to me awfully unrealistic that Harry didn't stay sick and headachey for the rest of the day. Maybe if he'd only overdone it by a drink the size of Severus', he wouldn't feel so bad. But two full glasses?! C'mon--poor Harry'd be sick as a dog!

Author's Response: Honestly, I don't drink, or I only have one to two drinks socially, so I'm no expert on hangovers.  But I had a roommate that drank herself senseless nearly every night when I was a freshman in college, and some days she was sick as a dog, and other times she was sick for a few hours and then was fine.  I have no idea why that was so, but I decided to give poor Harry a break and make him react to the summerdew in that manner, because after being flayed to ribbons by Severus, it'd be awful for him to be sick all day.  Plus the humiliation of puking right in front of his father is potent enough along with the lecture to make sure he never drinks to excess again.

Awww, the flashback. I liked how you wrote it, Mila

Author's Response: Thanks and it was kind of difficult to write!

Wonderful Chapter! Sev did Great talking to Harry!

Author's Response: Great, I'm gald you think so.  A few people thought he was a little too strict, but he had to punish Harry somehow, so he'd remember not to touch alcohol again.

Ah, rocky start there, but glad Snape cooled off and listened to Harry. The punishment is a bit excessive as no one has told Harry that he couldn't and or shouldn't drink, especially given what his aunt said. Face it Harry has had no parental figures to guide him, only those to abuse and use him as an house-elf. I think the essay and reading is enough, besides the hangover. Nothing like a vicious hangover to keep anyone from drinking again; my brother still doesn't. :) However, I will grant that Snape is being paranoid.

Author's Response: Yes, but given what Severus went through, it's understandable.  And it's funny, but some people are very affected by hangovers or they're not and they binge drink anyhow.  My room mate was the second kind, got sick as a dog and then went out the next night and did it all over again. I never really figured how or why she could do that.  Thaks for reviewing!

I think that Sev was right to yell at Harry and punish him in addition to sitting and talking it out. Harry is only 14 and this is a critical age, I work with many young adults and many who drink heavily state that they started by taking small amounts (regardless of the reason) from their parents’ liquor stock at a very early age and as they got away with it started taking more and more until they were heavy drinkers (the same goes for cigarettes and even weed/drugs). It is easy for Harry to say he will never drink again now he has a hangover and with Sev standing over him, but if Sev was too easy on him Harry would be tempted again (many not during the summer but with Ron and the others later - peer pressure is very great; especially as there is a history of alcoholism in the family). My concern was that Harry really did not think that what he did was so wrong – he justified his actions that is he had nightmares and couldn’t sleep – next time it could be that he was cold and need something to warm him or for medicinal purposes, an abused child could find many excuses – if he finds a way to explain why and justify it eventually it would be the solution to every problem. Sev needs to reassure Harry that he will not abuse him in any way but he can’t allow Harry to get away with things either – all children will test their parents to see what they can get away with – especially as Harry becomes more comfortable with Sev. Good chapter.

Author's Response: I agree, which is why I had Severus punish Harry that way, instead of merely letting him off with just a lecture and the hangover.  Because the hangover fades and then Harry might be tempted to do it again, but if he serves an additional punishment, he will remember it better and think twice.
