Oh no! Poor Harry. What a brute that man is.

I love Harry though; he still only thinks of others.

Great beginning Kaona! Onto the next chappie.

Author's Response: Yes, he is definitely a brute. And thanks :)

This was a really good start! Vernon is such a horrible person that the alcohol makes it even worse. Instead of just pourng the alcohol down the sink (which is what I used to make underage college students do when I caught them sneaking alcohol into my dorm--I was a security desk officer back then, they so hated that, because they usually didn't have money to buy more and they were reported too) Harry should have drugged the beer or whatever with a Sleeping Draft or sleeping pills dissolved in it. That would have kept Vernon out.

But then Harry would have had no reason for Sev to rescue him . . .unless Vern found out.

And Albus should know about the cupboard under the stairs since all Harry's Hogwarts letters were addressed there. Unless nobody reads the addresses . . .

I'm glad at least Petunia was willing to feed Harry, she should thank God Harry's so forgiving!

Author's Response: Yes, I've left whether they knew Harry had been living in the cupboard under the stairs as somewhat of a mystery, I suppose. I don't remember ever reading about it in the books and I just couldn't decide which way I wanted it to go. I also decided that Dumbledore, being such a brilliant man, would have picked up on the signs of abuse even more than others and since that is such incriminating evidence against him, I felt that whether he did or didn't know about the cupboard didn't matter as much since he has so many things against him. And Petunia should definitely be thankful that Harry's so forgiving. I would like to believe that Petunia was both thankful that Harry kind of protecting them from harm, and her finally growing a small amount of a conscience, is what led her to try to do what she could for Harry without putting herself or her son in harm's way.

Good begining though it seems just a little rushed. Please keep writing,I love Snape rescues Harry stories.

    Author's Response:

Sadly enough, I have been known to make my writing a little rushed. Quite a few years ago, I was told that in my writing, I went into far too much detail and things sort of dragged on so to speak. I guess I still haven't quite found the balance between dragged out and rushed writing yet. I will try to find a happy medium though. I will certainly keep writing, I already have three chapters written and will be posting them soon, although they will be posted a few days apart from each other. And I love Snape rescues Harry stories too. Thanks a lot for your review, reviews encourage me to keep writing. :)

Great first chapter looking forward to more...I assume the money is coming from an allowance the family gets from the Potter estate to take care of Harry; Petunia knows Harry dumped the alcohol to save Dudley and herself from Vernon's wrath in her own way she cares for the boy. Well I hope Sev comes soon to save Harry (as well as Petunia and Dudley).

Author's Response: Well, you shall certainly see about that. While Severus will not come to save Petunia and Dudley too, you have given me an idea. I think in perhaps the next five chapters or so, I will mention something about how the Dursleys are coping with an alcoholic Vernon. Once again, thanks a lot for your review! :) Look forward to seeing the next chapter quite soon.

This is a very intriguing start to what I hope will be a decent sized story. I rather like that Petunia and Dudley are against the alchoholism too. I have always found it difficult to believe stories where Petunia encourages her husband to become a drunken child abuser; so this was a nice change of pace. One slight nit-pick: This story takes place after his first year, so I find it unlikely that Hermione and Ron would wonder if Harry was dead. I understand that they would be worried, but having not lived in a world filled with war yet, death would probably not be the first thing that came to mind.
    All in all, good chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks a lot for your review. :) You do have quite a valid point, but when I wrote this chapter, I rather assumed that Ron and Hermione would still be a bit shaken about Harry's close-call encounter with Voldemort towards the end of the school year. I figured that they might think Voldemort and his followers had perhaps intercepted Harry on his way to the train station or had found a way to get to him at Privet Drive. Thanks for pointing this out though, I'm debating on taking that line out now to avoid further confusion. :)
