VERY nice! I really think that you should turn this into a longer fic - I'm gonna read the sequel, but I just know it won't be enough! One thing - I don't think you should have Severus do quite that much damage - it's really disturbing that he could loose control to that extent.

In terms of how much damage Snape does - I think the point is that he DID lose control and that's why Harry got hurt. It was a single slap, but he forgot their difference in size because he was so fixated on Harry as James - i.e. a contemporary of his own - and he lashed out accordingly. It was only when he connected that he was incontrovertibly shown that this was not his old nemesis but a child. And, to be fair to him, Harry wouldn't have been so hurt if he hadn't been so close to the wall. Not an excuse for Snape's behavior by any means, but he genuinely didn't mean to harm Harry to that degree... but that is unfortunately what often happens when you lose control. :(
