Reviews For Arms of a Dark Angel
My entire family is Christian, so as I say, this is not about whether or not JKR is or is not religious, or whether or not wizards are Christians. That is not the point. I just don't think such discussions are appropriate in fanfiction. And since it was Snape, it makes it all the more touchy, especially as in some minds (my own as well), Snape did not turn to the light by choice. He was forced into it. But a continuation on that discussion is for another board. Author's Response: I did not mean to offend anyone by putting that in there, I simply used it as a reference point for Severus explaining why forgiveness was for everyone. My personal take on Severus is that he was coerced into following darkness, he was not inherantly evil, but seduced into wrongdoing, and he had no friend or family member to tell him not to go down the dark road. He was a vulnerable outcast teenager and nobody gave a damn about him. Once he relaized what a terrible mistake he made he chose to go back to the light, I don;t think he was forced, it was a conscious choice, Voldemort meant to kill the one he loved best and he could not let that happen, so he abandoned the dark. True he had never been able to get over his resentment of Harry, but that's one of his flaws. But this debate over whether Severus is good or evil is one of the things which makes him such an interesting character, and I don't expect my opinion to be in the majority. Severus has both light and dark in him, as does Dumbledore and most of the others in the HP universe.
Author's Response: Yes, considering I started out with Harry thinking Severus was an angel, the religion part is almost a given. Forgiveness is so important to a child, and especially one like Harry, who has had it rammed down his throat that he was "unworthy" of it.
I certainly hope Severus isn't too stubborn to openly admit to the boy that he loves him. ::glares dangerously at aforementioned wizard:: Am I gonna have to hurt him, Snapegirl? I can't wait to read your next chapter. Ok, now to read more stories to distract myself from the pain of my dental surgery. (Ever had you wisdom teeth removed? It's been exactly 12 hours since I've eaten and I. Am. STARVING!) I take my leave for now. Lotsa love, Jewels. Author's Response: Sev is VERY stubborn, but something is going to happen that will make him tell Harry that he thinks of him as his son. It's coming up, you'll see what I mean. Ouch, I've never had my wisdom teeth out, I was lucky, I never needed to. It sounds awful! Read some more of mine, if you haven't already. LOL!

you know, over here Snape would be arrested for abuse for using that 'mouthwash'. Can we kill Vernon? please? Author's Response: There was nothing harmful in that mouthwash. All it was is a mixture of soap, lemon juice, and tabasco sauce, disgusting, but not remotely dangerous, and harry's reaction to it was a bit exaggerated. Severus would never cause real harm to Harry, and he knew exactly how it tasted because his mother used it on him. Vernon was killed off in my other fic, you know, I don't know if I want to do it again so soon. But he does deserve something awful to happen to him.
Author's Response: I made it up, but my mother once washed my sister's mouth out with hot sauce, so I just added to it. I may mention what happens to Draco when Severus talks to him, but it will be brief, since the focus of this is mainly on Severus, Harry, and Ron & Hermione.
I think the chapter could have worked quite well without that addition. Otherwise, it was a good chapter. It was nice for Harry to realize that Snape still cares about him. Author's Response: Actually, there was a discussion with JKR about the existence of God in her stories and she said that her wizards did believe in God, they don't always swear by Him but they do believe. They celebrate known Christian holidays, Christmas, Easter, and at least in this story, Harry is an obvious Christian, he believes in angels and equates Severus with one. So I didn't find it strange to have Severus say what he did to Harry, since forgiveness is a prime tenet of Christianity. And even if Snape does have a checkered past, I don't think it means he doesn't believe in God, perhaps he believes more than most, since he was the strayed one who returned to the the light. Anyway, it's a minor point, I'm not writing this to preach religion, the whole focus of this story is a secret relationship between Harry and Snape as father and son.
Author's Response: I'm RC myself, and I've never found anything subversive or evil in the HP series and JKR herself says that her wizards believe in God, Draco says "oh my God" and they celebrate Christian holidays at school. The books are really about a hero quest and they're fun to read. I have an interesting debate between Severus and Alaina in Growing Pains about God and Merlin, in case you haven't read it. As for Harry, he did indeed deserve that mouthwash, and well he knows it. It must be neat to live in Africa, that's one place I've never been.
I am glad that Severus reminded Harry that everyone who was sorry got forgiven - but first, you have to be sorry. Author's Response: Exactly, you need to be sorry and mean it, otherwise forgiveness is meaningless. And Harry knows that, and I'm sure he forgives Severus for punishing him. |
