Reviews For Father of Mine
If you can make this believable though, it could be a really good story. Author's Response: Thanks for the review. You actually hit on one of the very things I was thinking when I wrote the comment about Snape not necessarily being a nice guy. It's difficult to imagine how a parent could dislike a child, but that's the situation we're presented with here. I'm going to elaborate on the background a bit more in the next few chapters, and hopefully that will help put him in perspective. But for now, I think it's safe to say that biology means absolutely nothing to Severus. He loves who he loves. He hates who he hates. And as for the rest of the people around him ... it's cool indifference. He doesn't love Harry - there's never been an opportunity for that emotion to grow. He's not capable of approaching Harry with indifference - there's just too much history for that. And so he's left with hate. At least for the time being. Will I be able to make it believable? lol - who knows? My day job does not involve fiction writing, and there might be a good reason for that! Hopefully I'll be able to pull it off, but if not... well, at least I don't have to worry about characterizations for my paycheck. ;-) Feel free to drop a review anytime and let me know what you think, though. I am interested in hearing your opinion.
This has the potential to be really awesome. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with it! Of course it's cliche, but we all love it; canon Snape *isn't* a nice guy; and, well, Harry may be messed up and there may be angst, but you know we all lap it up. :D I do hope the illusion isn't *too* drastic—at minimum, I hope Harry still has Lily's eyes! Please don't introduce CP—if you do, I'll stop reading. (That is, introducing CP as an *appropriate* solution—frankly, I think canon Snape could easily have gotten physical.) I do think (and this isn't a criticism, just a commentary) that it is a little bit rich for Dumbledore to be talking about Harry having "a self-destructive streak that is dangerous to himself and others", because Dumbledore has done nothing but encourage Harry to put himself in peril since book one. I do think you're writing Dumbledore very well, though. Can't wait for more! Update soon! Author's Response: Thanks - I'm glad that you're enjoying it. The idea has been kicking around in my head for awhile, and I figured I might as well toss my hat into the ring and have a go at writing it. Angsty Harry is just such fun. I couldn't resist! As for CP - no, I don't intend to introduce that element into the story. Nothing against CP, it's just not where the story going. That said, it is entirely possible that Snape might get angry enought to strike out physically. If that happens, it will only be used as a device to move the characters' devopment forward, and I promise that Snape will show appropriate remorse afterwards. Hope that sets your mind at ease, but if not, I totally understand. Dumbledore has been a challenge to write, I think b/c he's colorful. I like him, but he's not above using Harry to the hilt if it means the Order will win. The illusion is an example - Dumbledore is very casual about the need to remove it. But... who says Snape is going to do it? lol, maybe he'll listen to Dumbledore, maybe he won't. We'll see... Thanks again for the review. :)
Author's Response: More to come soon... :-) Thanks for the kind words.
Author's Response: Thanks, next update will hopefully be out soon.
Author's Response: Glad to hear you like it. lol, they'll both survive, but there will be fireworks between them in the future...
Author's Response: Thanks! |
