So sad, but how can you trust someone who hasn't earned it and who HAS earned distrust at every turn? Reaping what we sow is never easy.

Good for Harry! He finally got that off his chest. Dumbledore should learn to regret what he's done and not assume that all mistakes can be brushed under the rug and forgiven so easily. I think he'll have to work really hard to regain both Harry and Severus' trust.

Author's Response: Eventually the old man will. Harry needed to tell him the way he felt and now that he did, he can feel better.

This was a very strong chapter. I love a strong Harry and Dumbledore did need to be made aware of how Harry felt about the things he did. Now that the air is cleared and Harry has his denied Dumbledore the right to decide his future for him, maybe they can put all hard feelings behind them and move on. Very cleansing.

Author's Response: Yes, it was.  Those things were unpleasant, but they needed to be addressed, and I for one like Harry when he stands up for himself and doesn't just go along with whatever Albus says.  I think he made it easy for harry to admire and worship him as a youngster, but now Harry is growing up and starting to learn what's been going on behind the scenes, and not everything is black and white or cut and dried. Dumbledore is not perfect, just as Severus is not, or Sirius, or even Harry.  He simply allowed people to think he was.

If all parents treated their children the way Albus treated the two young men he "loved like sons" then this world would be in a lot of trouble.

Great update. Hmmm, are you going to cure Sirius?

    Author's Response:

You're right, we would be in trouble.

Ah . . .you'll see in the next chapter, wouldn't want to spoil my surprise.

Sometimes reading is strongly effected by RL, that might be the case with me and this chapter. It's a good chapter; I'm not saying it isn't. It's just...I guess I was as reluctant has Harry to go through this with Dumbledore. The reader knows what happened, Harry knows, Dumbledore knows-- there's no excuse for the abandonment/abuse situation that Dumbledore could offer. In this version of events, they're not close enough to really work through this (he's not going to break down crying in front of D., he doesn't trust him). So the chapter doesn't forward the plot, and I don't find it very emotionally rewarding. Harry has a right to be angry; D. accepts that and regrets-- no change, just a verification of the whole thing. The chapter does put a new spin on the cannon event- perhaps the contrast was important to emphasize the AU?

Author's Response: I know this might seem like a filler chapter, but it's not.  Yes, everyone who is reading knows that D made a huge mistake and all and that Severus knows and to a certian extent Harry knows, but Harry needs to tell D the way he feels as Harry, and also needs to tell him that he won't be used that way again.  It's an assertion of independence that is necessary for his continued growth as a person.  He also needs to tell D about the new prophecy, because Albus has no clue about it.  And then Albus can offer some clues and leads about the Horcruxes and some general info on Tom Riddle, the Gaunt mansion, the Riddle House, the orphanage.  Dumbeldore knows about those places because he knew Tom from before he was LV, Severus doesn;t know of them because it was before his time as a DE.  And lastly, it allows Harry to really drive home to Dumbledore that he really screwed up and should make sure not to do it a third time--the first time he messed up was with Severus.  Plus, it gives me a chance to re-do that scene in the office and show a more controlled Harry, totally different from canon.

I want to jump around, pumping my fist in the air chanting "Go Harry! You told him!" I think it came out better than the discussion in OOTP, becasue while he did lose it a little, overall he kept him compsure very well, and showed a maturity that I think helped Dumbles see that he wasn't "just" a kid anymore.

Author's Response: That's what I was hoping for, since in this story, Harry has matured more than in canon and learned from Severus how to control himself better.  And that did go a long way towards showing Albus that he could make sound decisions and act like an adult and not a child.

Great chapter. I thought I had reviewed, but then realised that I got booted off the computer by my kids before I had a chance to! :)

I love how Albus and Harry cleared the air between them; that was needed! I think that Harry had a lot of resentment built up inside him. I'm glad that Harry finally has someone whom he can trust, and feels saved and cared for. Sev is his rock now. Aw...here come those warm fuzzies again, threatening to take me over....but I don't mind!

    Author's Response:

Whoops! Glad you realized you hadn't reviewed, 'cause I love hearing from you.

    You're so invigorating! :)

Yes, that was a very intense and necessary confrontation and now that everything's out in the open, Harry can have a better relationship with Severus and eventually Dumbledore as well.

Well, that was intresting. I do hope Sirius can be cured. Insanity is worse then death. Dumbledore is going to have a very hard time to try and atone for his mistakes. Of that I'm quite sure.

    Author's Response:

It is and if Severus can worm the info out of Bella, Sirius should be cured.

Yes, it will take a long time for them to trust Dumbledore again, and the way back will be rocky, but then no penance is ever easy.

I think I finally understand fully why I never liked Dumbledore... Mila

Author's Response: He can be very manipulative, can't he?
