Reviews For Alea Iacta Est
But I'm so glad that Harry and Severus are getting on so well now. Harry needs him and I think Severus needs Harry just as badly. It's just sad that it was cancer that brought them together... I like the playful snark they throw at each other. It makes me smile. ^_^ Wonderful chappie Ella! I'll have to read more when I get back from work tonight!! Author's Response: Not really always means yes! LOL. Otherwise, someone would say no. Uh oh, you better watch out! Daddy Severus? That won't fly with him. I'm happy to hear you like the playful snark. It's such a part of Sev's character, and I'm sure it'll continue to wear off on Harry. Thanks!
Love the treatment that Ron is getting (^-^)/ I can't wait to see what Severus gets Harry. Perhaps it is just me but even at my age I love toys, crayons, coloring books, and definitely plushies!! Author's Response: There are seriously apple doughnuts, two different kinds in fact. One is an apple cider doughnut which is the one I was thinking of that is like a cake doughnut that's really good and the other kind is an apple filled doughnut. You see a little what Harry gets in Chapter Thirty-Four, but a lot of it won't be revealed until Chapter Thirty-Six, but I can tell you that you got one of them right. ;) Thanks!
Author's Response: Thanks! They're close again for now, but they have a lot of things to work out yet and Harry is well a teenager.
Author's Response: Thanks! I agree that his reaction was very Ron-ish. I don't see how he could've reacted any other way and still be Ron, but we still love him. Harry's confused and insecure and it'll take a while to work everything out, but they're headed in the right direction.
Thanks for nice chapter! I'm waiting for next! Author's Response: I can't believe it was only the 3rd myself at times. lol. When I was going back through it, I was like really? Wow. Apparently I could be a good writer on 24. lol. The pacing should pick now. There was just a lot to discuss in one day that couldn't happen off stage so to speak. Thanks! The next chapter should be posted by the end of the weekend.
Author's Response: Did you miss the previous update? I'm just asking because the last three chapters, I've updated with about 10 days between each. I haven't forgotten about this story and while it might take me a while to update sometimes, I have no plans on leaving it unfinished. Good guesses. You'll have to wait and see what Sev brings back. Thanks!
Haha, I bet Mrs. Weasley will let the twins off their punishment now. I know that I would. I wish that the twins had choosen something even more...lasting than that. Perhaps an invisiblity potion so no one would be able to see him-but then again, that might work in Ron's favor-I doubt he wants to be seen by his mum at the moment. Serves him right though, the git! I know he doesn't know pretty much anything about Cancer, but SHESH, it doesn't take a genius to know you don't ask THAT question! So no invisibility potion. I like that Severus isn't letting Harry get away with lack of manners. He's doing the right thing by being kind but correcting him all the same. I used to work at a daycare and one elementary school-aged child had cancer as a young boy. His mom and dad were hesitant to correct him on manners because he was such a "poor dear", and while he is turning out all right, his little brother, who also doesn't get corrected is a NIGHTMARE! He would throw the hugest fits, and I've come home with bruises, almost a complete black eye from him throwing things at me. I'm glad that I don't work there anymore (I quite and then one month later it got closed down because of the way the managers were treating the staff-turns out that YES, people need breaks if they are working 7 am to 6:30 pm...but I'm on a tangeant, sorry). Anyways, kudos to Severus! For some reason, this part got to me ""I'm sorry! I could've cleaned it up," his child looked towards the kitchen, probably to see if he could spot the place Severus kept the cleaning supplies." I think because, it shows how insecure Harry really is-while I read it, I imagined him all panicked and regretful. I can only guess what would have happened if he "dared" to spill something at the rotten Dursleys home. In a way, even though it's spoken, that seems to be another example of showing-not-telling that I'm always messing up on. Good job for you! Aww, about the applesauce, well apple everything...shall I floo Harry and Severus some cinnamon apple oatmeal? I'll include some apple donuts with an everlasting warmth charm and preservation charm as well. I have mixed feelings about the new chemo, no doubt that it will work as well as the current, but they are to be more potent. Harry's body was already having a time with the old and milder drugs, so I can only imagine how his body will react now. I have a feeling the side effects (ones that can't be helped) will come quicker) A question-I thought, and I could be majorly wrong-that in the previous chapter or two (I can't remember if it was chapter 32 or 31), that Severus told him that there was no need for more intrathecal chemotherapy at the time. In the timeline, that would have been said earlier that day. So, what am I getting wrong? Confused, but that's me :-P I definately understand about the nerves issue. My sister, while never having chemo or anything of the sort, had problems with her nerves. When she broke her neck, the only lasting damage was to the nerves controling her left hand. It was so bad that she couldn' t move it on her own or bend it or stop the shaking. As she is a lefty, that was a bit of a problem. We had her squeezing little foam balls and then even trying to catch them. I helped reteach her how to write again. My mom is the only other strictly lefty in the family, but her writing isn't all that good so she and the physical theropist had me reteach Heather. I'm ambidextrous so I could teach her though she wasn't exactly thrilled about it (a 10 year old reteaching a 16 year old how to write...not her thing)...anyway, I know his nerve issues must be a pain...in both senses. Ah...another mention of Severus carding his hand through Harry's hair, is this time an intentional mention? I really do wonder how Harry's hair loss will be taken by both. In the long run, hair loss seems to be such a minor thing compared to the other ills of chemo, but it means a whole to some, evidence of how sick they really are. I know that Courtney was scared stiff when her hair fell out from the chemo. I try to participate in the "Locks for Love" program whenever I can. Have you ever done that? Just a little note since I know that you like to have people point out errors. "That's why you have reading glasses!" Hakdjfkdsj " I'm not sure what the Hakdjfkdsj means, but I thought I'd point it out to you. I know that I'd want someone to show me my typos. Hmm, as to what Severus will bring, let me guess, Apples to Apples *smirks* LOL, I'm just joking, the game wasn't even invented at the time. I think that he will bring some board games though, that seems like a Severus thing. Perhaps some clay/putty to work Harry's hands (another thing that greatly helped Heather), some cards, etc. Great chapter and I hope you can update again soon, I can't get enough of this story, it's so good! I'm helping out at the Relay for Life event this Saturday and it's gotten me thinking of this story constantly! Question-Did you see or hear of the movie, "Letters to God"? It's a movie about a child with luekemia that came out in April. I didn't see it, I wanted to and WILL get the DVD of it come November (and the book before then) but the movie looked awesome and used real cancer patients in some of the scenes. Til next time, see ya! -Autumn Author's Response: LOL I'm sure Ron would've loved a candy that made him invisible at that moment. There's always next time for a harsher trick. ;) For now, he'll have to face Molly's wrath that hopefully knock some sense into him. I don't see Severus ever looking past things like manners. At times he's verging on the edge of coddling Harry, but I can't see him as the type to spoil Harry or let him get away murder, figuratively speaking. Ouch! You got a black eye from that child? Why didn't you guys tell the parents the child couldn't come back if he was going to keep acting that way? Yep, Harry's reaction to the spill was an example of show not tell. See how if you choose the right words and actions you don't have to explain the characters, the reader just gets it? That's what show not tell is ultimately about. I'm glad to see you're picking up on examples as you read. It shows you're understanding the concept and becoming a better reader and writer. We'll see more of Harry's insecurities in the next chapter btw. ;) Can I have the apple donuts instead? When I wrote that chapter I so started to crave one, and I don't think I can get one around here. We don't have a Dunkin' Donuts, only Krispy Kreme. Now I want donuts again. Ugh. lol. We'll have to wait and see how Harry handles the new chemo. It's more potent, but it won't be running through his system 24/7 either. The intrathecal chemo mention in the earlier chapter meant that he didn't need any more than was already scheduled. It was probably a tricky wording that could've confused you. Wow, I bet your sister really hated that, especially as a teenager. Hopefully, she didn't take it out on you too much. Sev carding his hand through Harry's hair was an intentional mention. I'm not entirely sure how Harry will handle it yet. Severus I think is ready and expecting it. I think he'll be pretty nonchalant about it for Harry's sake. The last time I cut my hair I think I got like 8 inches cut off, so close to the length required for Locks of Love. My hair was down to just about the waistband of my jeans when straightened and when I cut it, it was still to the middle of my back. I have problems with Locks for Love not because of them, but about one every two years I get bored with my hair color and decide to put highlights in it, usually blonde. Well, my hair is dark, dark brown so to get blonde highlights I have to use a dye that contains bleach which then rules out Locks for Love because they won't take bleached hair. It kinda sucks because I seriously have like the thickest hair ever that everyone loves except me. lol. I hate it being thick and curly. It takes forever to straighten and because it's frizzy I can't just walk out the door with it wet. They could probably almost make a wig with just my hair. I always joke to people that I'll just cut out a chunk of hair from somewhere in the middle that they can have and that you'd probably never notice it was gone. Good guesses. We'll have to see what Severus finds. I haven't heard of that movie, but I have downloaded and watched "Dear Jack" which is a documentary about the lead singer of Jack's Mannequin and his leukemia journey. You can find it on iTunes, and while I'm not a fan of his music, the documentary was a great watch. Parts of it were sad, but he made the best out of the situation. It shows him using a lint brush/roller on his head when his hair was falling out. Good news for you. The next chapter should be posted sometime this weekend. I just finished writing it, and it needs editing. I don't think I'll make it tonight since I gotta attend to my reviews, but hopefully tomorrow night after I get home from work I'll get to it. The ball is in your court now to get writing. How's SE coming? Thanks!
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm not sure if the next talk will make the next chapter or not, but we will see what Sev brings Harry back.
OOh, I love all this bonding. I'm so glad that Harry is learning to lean a litle on Severus, even though it's against everything that has been ingrained in him from the horrible Dursleys. I can't wait to see what Sev brings Harry back. Uh...a video game, books probably. Crossword puzzles? Hmm...please hurry. The suspense is killing me. Author's Response: Harry's relationship with Severus is headed in the right direction, but there's still some bumps to get over. Good ideas, but a video game won't work since you can't use electricity in Hogwarts. Thanks!
I'm glad that Harry was able to relax once Ron was gone. His and Severus' relationship is slowly, but surely, heading in the right direction. I do hope that the new treatment plan will be kinder to Harry whilst still working just as well. Harry needs at least one good break. I wonder what Severus will bring Harry? A television might not be a bad idea. Author's Response: Ron didn't do that much damage, and I think he'll be back sooner than you think though with more supervision this time. The trick candy was pretty tame for them, but there will always be more opportunities for something more interesting. ;) A television is a good idea, but electricity won't work at Hogwarts unfortunately. We'll have to wait ad see how the new treatment plan works for him. Maybe he will get a break. Thanks! |
