James was a fool. Peter wouldn't have begged to be hidden if he wasn't guilty and as an Auror, James should have realized that. He knew that it was against the law to help him, so why did he? He should have instead convinced Peter to turn himself in and tell the truth. I do not feel sorry for James at all and am afraid that he will try to steal Harry away.
I hope all those who were loyal to the Snapes for years and then just turned their backs on them for what amounted to a rumor feel terrible. You should never assume that the paper tells the truth, particularly when it's a gossip rag like the Daily Prophet. I cannot wait to see their reaction when Pettigrew goes to trial for slander.
Are the Snapes going to sue the Daily Prophet? I think they should. At the very least, they owe this family a huge apology and need to retract the parts of the story that are false....on the front page!
