Reviews For Alea Iacta Est: A Forgotten Moment
Author's Response: You're very welcome though I had no control over what day it got posted. ;) Kids pick up on things like "those eyes" very quickly, and I'm sure being around Severus all the time sped up his learning of how to get what he wanted. After all, he only had one parent to butter up instead of two. Thanks!
Author's Response: Yay, you picked up on a lot of the subtext I quietly wrote into this as I've discovered I can't write complete fluff, fluff with an underlying purpose and subtext yes, but not complete fluff. In some ways if you think about some of the lines like his wishes for Hadrian, it's rather sad to know what happened later. I made autumnamberleaves laugh. :) I thought people would like that block bit. I included a little bit of myself in this young Sev in not being around babies/toddlers much at all. Plus, he's a smart cookie and sometimes smart people just can't understand how others don't get something even if it's a baby. lol. The afraid of light thing was one of the things that popped into my head when I chose my prompts. It wasn't always like this as I had planned a whole different few chapters thing, but then it morphed into this. Plus, I just thought it would be interesting if a small child was afraid of light instead of the dark. You don't really hear about that. I totally survived BF. I hope you did. I was actually crazy enough to go shopping on my lunch break and after work. I totally couldn't pass up the great DVD/Blu-ray disc prices as I usually get a bunch for my dad for Christmas.
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm sure Severus would love to have this memory back. Perhaps he'll try a memory restorative draught and delve into his own mind and try to find the magical trace left by the obliviation.
I've never really got the thing with renaming Harry, though. Somehow, his image is so strongly associated with his name (in my mind, that is), that I've a hard time getting used to him being called otherwise. Ah, well. I could - forced myself to, more likely - pretend for the tiniest moment that Hadrian was Harry. :P Really loved how you described Severus as 'young father' who, even on the point of exhaustion and having his own goals in view (the Potions Mastery), is ready to abandon everything to help/save/protect his son. It was so... heart-warming, for a lack of a better word. Especially this place: "He’d kill the Dark Lord himself if it came down to it if it meant securing a happier world for his child to grow up in." Boy, that made me love Severus so much more, if that's possible! :D All in all, very nice story, and you've definitely got me interested as to what exactly is going on in Alea Iacta Est. :D Good job! Author's Response: Yay a new reader! I'm happy to hear you were able to follow the storyline without getting confused. I tried to put in the necessary details for people who weren't familiar with the main story, and it sounds like I was pretty successful at that. As far as the name goes, in the main story it's discovered his legal name is Hadrian, but he goes by Harry and will for the foreseeable future. The name thing is a part that's better explained in the main story, but the explanation couldn't really have been included here. I picked a name close to Harry on purpose as a nickname for Hadrian could easily be Harry. I always believed Severus had a heart, even if in canon it was kept hidden and tucked away. It makes him more human and I'd like to think that everyone has dreams and Severus was no exception. I'm glad you're interested in Alea Iacta Est now. I hope you enjoy reading that as well. Be prepared for lots of twists and turns and once you read that you'll be able to come back to this story and pick up on the subtext that adds a tiny bit of sad tone to this moment. Thanks so much!
Author's Response: I promise not to tell Sev that you said cute to a situation involving him. ;) Thanks!
Author's Response: You'll see more pieces like this interwoven into the original story as Sev still hasn't viewed the memories yet. One-shots like these are fun though so I'm sure there'll eventually be more. Thanks!
Author's Response: Thanks! It was fun to write a baby Harry. |
