Reviews For When the Boat Comes In
Author's Response: Thanks for the review. This has definately been one of the tougher chapters for Severus, more down to his own low self-esteem than anything else as he think's Harry will judge him as he's judged himself
It was good of Severus to tell Harry the truth, but update and soon. Author's Response: Thanks for the review; update is already uploaded ^^ Hope you enjoy it
Author's Response: Thanks for the review; I'm glad you're enjoying my portrayal of Harry
Author's Response: Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying it ^^
Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I've tried to base my Severus's personality on the canon preteen/teenage Severus, who is gentle, considerate and sweet- all I've done is make him rather more sophisticated lol! Harry is, indeed, highly intelligent and very empathetic but Severus has been treated with so little true kindness and has such a low opinion of himself that he is frightened that Harry will judge him as he judges himself.
oh. crap. you would. *sigh* (by the bye - i think you did a great job with this conversation. i hope that harry is okay and that severus is able to talk him into seeing sirius and that sirius isn't too much of an idiot. maybe remus will help?) Author's Response: Thanks for the review; yes, I know I'm mean but updating every day means that I can afford to tease you all with one or two cliffhangers ;) I'm glad you think I did a good job on the conversation; it's always rather difficult to get dialogue to sound natural and spontanious, even when one of the characters is someone as erudite as Severus.
Author's Response: Thanks for the review; Severus definately had a tough childhood- all the exteunerating circumstances are there. However, I can't say any more because I don't want to give away spoilers
I wonder though, did you intentionally have Harry act young in your mind when you wrote this? I know that children who have been denied a parental figure sometimes regress a little. Sort of making up for what they missed. Congrats on a great story, looking forward to reading more. regards jay. Author's Response: Thanks for the review ^^ As you've suggested, Harry does regress into the behaviour of a younger child, especially under highly stressful circumstances. In the last few chapters, this is especially pronounced as Harry has just lost Voldemort's soul shard; that nasty little voice is no longer disparaging him and, therefore, Harry is slightly off-balance and, as he's considerably more confident in his emotions, he's rather needy and does not scruple to conceal it. Also, Harry has Draco as a role model and Draco acts rather younger than his years around his parents, especially his doating Dad. However, Harry often acts with a maturity which is far greater than his years, (i.e. his sentiments towards Ron when 'Scabbers' died), so he's a mixture, like most abused children.
Author's Response: Thanks for the review; Harry's had a rather eventful half-term, hasn't he? |
