Puppies can be a handful, can't they? Harry is young and will need some time to get used to his new responsibility. I have a feeling that he will begin remembering to put things up now that he lost all of his chocolate eggs.

Kids are resilient. I'm sure that even Harry felt that he would never get over the separation from Toby, but in his heart he knows that it wasn't permanent and he has his friends to play with, so all is well.

    Author's Response:

Thanks for the review ^^. Toby is definately going to teach Harry to tidy his room lol: there's nothing like discovering that your dog has eaten your trainers, bag, book or, in my case, CD to remind you that things should be put away safely in their respective cupboards. The chocolate scare is doubly potent as Toby could have died.

Harry, of course, is going to feel incredibly sad every time he has to say goodbye to Toby but, unlike most kids who say goodbye to their larger pets for whole terms, Harry has all the luck of having a father living at Hogwarts, meaning that Toby can stay with his other family during the day but spend the evenings with Severus and Harry.

Lovely chapter, with so much packed in to it. Glad the little owlets are all settled, while Toby is going to teach Harry a lot.

Author's Response: Thanks: I wanted it to be a long one seeing as I'd not updated for a while. I'm glad you enjoyed it ^^

*hugs* I hope you're feeling better. This was a wonderful chapter. Adoriable pup. We have an adolescent dog(a little over a year old, in fact) and she is the cutest thing. She is almost cat like in behaviour, but like most young creatures can be exceedingly fustrating. I'm glad to see that Harry won't be allowed to miss her too much. Kudos on a well written chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks ^^. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Puppies are both adorable and extremely frustrating and, more often or not, people and dogs only perfect their understanding of each other towards after six or so years, by which time the dog (if it's a larger breed) is starting to slip into old age.

Chocolate and coffee are actually poisonous to humans as well. The only reason we don't get sick and die like dogs do is that are bodies are larger and can handle more (if you ever drank something high in caffeine and were trembling afterwards, that is one of the first symptoms of caffeine poisoning). Its scary that the amount us humans can ingest safely is enough to get a cat or dog really sick if not kill them. Severus and Harry are just lucky they discovered what Toby ate when they did...

    Author's Response:

Thanks for the review. A large number of substances are poisonous in high enough quantity, including oxygen. Naturally, different animals have different sensitivities, which is why dogs shouldn't be given 'human food'- not because they don't deserve it but because it's not always safe for them. Toby is useful for Harry because, unlike Reggie, who is bidable, with simple needs, and Hedwig, who is pre-trained and independant, Toby a. requires training, b. has complex needs and c. doesn't understand what is good for him; like most dogs, he'd happily eat himself into an early grave. Therefore, Harry must learn to be responsible for someone other than himself.

I loved the chapter:) I though Toby was a perfectly characterized puppy. Harrys' frustrations were also well placed in this chapter, I thought. Dogs are hard work, especially in the beginning. I cant wait to see what else you come out with, great job!

    Author's Response:

Thanks ^^ In the canon, although Harry often behaves much older than his years, he is also quite irresponsible; the events at the end of Order of the Phoenix are one example of a situation where a little consideration might have prevented a tragedy. Toby is going to teach Harry to be patient and the importance of considering all the posibilities of his actions, whether leaving a basket of chocolate on his bed or dashing into danger.

I'm sorry you've been sick. I hope you're feeling better. I loved Severus's comment about "Welcome to teaching." Very amusing. Thanks for the update!

    Author's Response:

Thanks, I am feeling rather better. I thought that 'welcome to teaching' was rather a 'Severus Snape' comment. Toby, like most dogs, is going to put a bit of strain on the family and, now that Harry is rid of the soul-shard, he is going to be a little more bolshy.
