I think that's an old poem, actually. It's by a guy named Steve Smith.
I was much too far out all my life And not waving but drowning.
Author's Response: It's also a song by Clifford T Ward, I like a little intertextuality now and again

I have read this twice now and absolutely love it each time. It's like coming across a treasured book you could only half remember and thought you had lost. I /adore/ in the best way your portrayals of Lucius, Severus, and Draco as I am a Slytherin girl at heart and espacially love love love those three. I enjoyed seeing things through Harry's eyes and, like him, got to better learn this AU verse you created. I love the inclusion of Hissy as a friendly, helpful creature and the terminology/lingo you created is some that I use on occasion. All in all, absolutely magical. I feel as those I've discovered a new facet of the HP verse, one that, could have been had Harry been a Snake.
Enjoyed? I have loved it. Thank you.
Love this story. Hope you do extended sequel eventually :)
I was crying with Harry as he read the letters...still here blinking back tears lol
