I thought his “denial turned acceptance” was very believably done.
Nice revelations, and realizations on Severus' part as he came to understand that Harry did not have the ideal upbringing that he'd imagined all along. I don't think Petunia was overly out of character, nor was Severus, given the nature of this AU.
