I love the story, something you said earlier about being an animal lover and some people don't understand. My 19 year old cat died 2 weeks ago in her sleep, my dogs and other cat keep walking around looking for him. Animals have more feelings then people sometimes. Love your story, and nice to see Sev in a sensitive light about animals.

Author's Response: Aww! I'm so sorry for your loss.  They really do. My beagle Rocky was very depressed because Gabe was gone, he just moped and wouldn't play and picked at his food, it was pitiful.  And sometimes he would just sit there at the sliding door to the yard and look out at it, waiting for his "brother" to come back inside, but of course he never did.

"And they liked to hug. A lot."- Oh the horror!! hahaha! That was funny when he was thinking about the Hufflepuffs. When I read those two little sentences I just started giggling because for some reason I pictured that famous painting with teh weird white looking alien guy with his hands on his face like he was going "Oh NO!!"...if you know which one I mean. HAHA! Great mental image there! XD

But I really am disliking the Marauders all over again. I didn't care for them (that's putting it mildly) in the real books, and I can never really like them in fiction either. They're just so...snorty! And Peter, geez!! Hit the dog cage, yeah that's smart!! Dumb a**!!!

But I hope Severus and Lily don't get into too much trouble being friends. I mean, Lucius is usually a strong personality to deal with and then there's the Marauders...But I LOVED that McGonagall liked Gabe! XD She would!

    Another fantastic chappie!! :D

    Author's Response:

I know the one you're talking about! LOL!

You're right and I never did either. I felt they were allowed to get away with murder (almost literally) and pass all their nasty doings off as mere pranks, but what they did to Severus wasn't a "prank" it was cruel and stupid. What the Weasley twins did at school were pranks, harmless and amusing practical jokes that they put on everyone, not just Slytherins or whatever, and they didn't hurt anyone or mock anyone.  The Marauders kind of humor was evil and degrading and they were bullies. Yeah Pettigrew's a real little rat here, I always hated him the most.

Lucius won't be in the story much, I think he was 5th year when Snape was 1st, so by the time the Marauders really get going, he'll have finished school.

I always figured MCGonagall would love a collie, considering she's Scottish and they originated the breed there.

Thanks for reading and I've posted the next one!

Let's see... this story is being posted to P&S and the warnings include adoption, who on Earth could the young brunette be?

Thank you for writting this; I'm thinking of it as very uncomfortable therapy and am hoping to be well with my dog-less existance by the end of it.

    Author's Response:

    Guess!

Yeah, it'a therapy for me too! I've just updated again, by the way!

Great chapter. I love how Gabe and Lily defended Severus. And Minerva too. Plus Hagrid. At leats in this story, Sev has teachers to rely on as well as Lily, and of course he has Gabriel. I think Sev's son is Harry.

Oh, as a side note, I didn't actually become atheist, but until I was told the tests came back and she had had cancer and being hit on the road had been a far less painful way to die, I slowly started listening to my religious friends again.

Stephanie passed away the winter before I graduated high school. My friends tried to tell me that God prolly took her so she wouldn't be hurt when I went off to college the next fall. I told them I didn't want anything to do with a God that took my baby from me and I had planned on going to a community school so I wouldn't be leaving her behind. She wouldn't have understood why I left otherwise. Either I was very immature, or there's not as much difference between 11 and 18 as people seem to think.

Yeah, I would have run back too. Pets are members of the family as well. You wouldn't leave a human friend, why would you leave a four legged one?

Uhmm....after the end of the journal entry, everything was in italics. I'm not sure if you meant to do that, or if it was the font messing up again. Just thought I'd mention it to you. Btw, I loved the chap.

Author's Response: No, that was deliberate. I try and do the memory past thing in regular print and the present day journal entry in italics.
