Reviews For The White Laird of the Mountains
Very good chapter. Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I don't think Harry and Severus could ever settle into a routene devoid of headbutting lol! (If only because Severus is sarcastic and Harry is a teenage boy, one of the more thin-skinned of beings)
Author's Response: Thanks ^^
It was interesting to see Aberforth thrown into the mix, and the way you wrote his interaction with Snape, one would think they're... friends? Good chapter. Author's Response: Thanks for the review. In the storyline, Severus (or, rather, I) needed a fast solution and, as Harry views McGonagall as more of a Great-Aunt figure, Albus has proved himself untrustworthy (in Snape's eyes) and Severus hasn't yet been able to repair his relationship with Harry (and, indeed, doesn't know whether it's possible) the candidates are reduced to four: Sirius, Hagrid, the Weasleys and Remus. Now, casting aside Severus' opinions of Black (who is, in some ways, even less mature and more dangerous than Hagrid (considering his daredevil attitude), Sirius is a man on the run and, therefore, would be hard pressed to create a secure location. Remus is a werewolf, nuff said, and the Weasleys, while being good parents, are not really able to provide an appropriate level of security and, besides, Ron is at varience with Harry. Hagrid, on the other hand, lives in Hogwarts (and could take a suite inside the castle during the holidays), is very strong, has a natural defence against curses and, most importantly, he loves Harry and Harry loves him. As for Aberforth and Severus, I've always thought that the two astute, no-nonsence men would probably have a grudging respect, if not a positive friendship, and I can see Severus letting off steam about his students (and employer) to Aberforth's sympathetic ear (after all, as a DE, he has to stay in character ;).
But on the other hand, one can hardly blame Harry for being upset and angry. He has always grieved for his lost parents and everything that he has suffered, from being raised by the Dursleys to being targeted by Voldemort, stems from that prophecy. I can't help but think that Harry has a right to be upset, and that Dumbledore should also recognize that. But of course, I am really hoping that Harry and Severus can make amends and that Severus won't be lost in that corridor forever. Great job! Author's Response: Thanks; it's a bit of a rollercoaster chapter, isn't it. I think the reason that Dumbledore was so stern was that, although he knew Harry had a right to be angry, he did not want Harry to take that anger out on Severus because striking someone's achilles heel tends to have disasterous results. (Of course, at this point, Dumbledore did not know that Harry had already verbally attacked Severus) I'm glad I managed to get over both sides of the story, however; I didn't want either character to be percieved as being in the wrong for the reasons you've mentioned
I do hope that Ron will come around before he loses Harry's friendship forever. This time period was definitely one of Ron's low points. And of course it would be confusing and stressful for Harry to not know what to expect from Severus now, or how he should react. I'm glad that they talked and got things straightened out. And I loved Severus instructing Harry to get detention by punching Malfoy, lol. Author's Response: Thanks ^^. I thought that, although Hagrid seldom makes speeches, it would be very in character for him to publicly claim Harry as his son, not least because, after his childhood, having someone proudly announce him as a member of their family would do wonders for his self-esteem.
Author's Response: Thanks :) The Severus/Hagrid connection was one of the reasons why I thought that the adoption would work; in the canon, Hagrid seems to respect Severus and, I imagine, would listen to the astute, clever man's advice. Combined with Aberforth's no-nonsence attitude and, as you say, the fact that Harry has a good head on his shoulders, Hagrid's mistakes will probably be minimal and, most importantly, he'll give Harry the all encompassing love and support he needs to flourish.
Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I hope you enjoy the rest of the plot :)
Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I'm seriously considering writing a sequel now, considering how well this universe has been recieved, but I'm going to need a little time to think up a plot, not to mention making some serious headway on two stories which have been on the backburner for too long. Oh, and a sequel to When The Boat Comes In. And couple of fic-ideas which haven't even been started yet. //drowns in ink//
Author's Response: Thanks ^^. I adore Hagrid too and I though that, seeing that this story is rather gritty, a little fluff wouldn't go amiss. Besides, Hagrid and Severus would make a good team; Hagrid resects Severus and would (probably) take his advice on which creatures consitute sensible pets lol!
Author's Response: Thanks for the review. Yes, I know the ending must have come as a surprise in being so fast but I really wanted to use that plot twist ^^ |
