Brilliant opening chapter; I love how you've described Harry's devastation- he's in shock, isn't he? I experienced something similar for a whole two years after my beloved dog died; the numbness, the feeling that one has lost one's soul, become inhuman is, in fact, a very human reaction to a terrible event and I think you've portrayed it beautifully.
I also love the hint of dramatic irony; Ron was showing the old man Harry's picture, wasn't he?
