I loved that awkward little conversation, with Harry wanting to leave some of his things at Severus' house but not sure whether he could and Severus wanting Harry to know that he would provide for him (both robes and a home). Harry's thoughts on his birthday are also bittersweetly endearing.
Great chapter; I really liked the floo scene, which seems to have acted as confirmation to Severus and Harry that they can trust each other. I can also see Severus respecting Hermione at that age (i.e. when she'd become a little more socially aware lol)
Aww, the last paragraph is so sweet. A truly gorgeous chapter with wonderful character interaction.
Very sweet chapter; I've always suspected that Severus and Harry would share a love of cooking and I think you've portrayed their interaction, with Severus' merticulous appraisal of flavours and Harry's modest pride, really beautifully. The idea of the letters is intreaging: looking forward to more!
Another brilliant chapter with some intreguing revalations and good character development; Harry and Severus are certainly learning off one another!
Aww the gobstones story is too sweet (I'm like that with my best-friend ^^). I expect that those irritatingly paternal feelings are going to grow; I've always thought that canon Severus had a huge capacity for love- he'd just been hurt too badly to actively try again.
I loved the last sentence; it's proved false by the entire chapter, thus a delicious piece of dramatic irony. Your description of the words hanging in the air like blood-drenched daggers was also really powerful, in fact kudos on your use of imagery on the whole. I love the mixture of maturity and childishness you have portrayed in Harry, it's very realistic given the abuse he's endured. Severus' comment over Sirius' choice of presents was deliciously Snape-ish ^^
Great chapter; I loved how Severus calmly led Harry through the questions about his relatives (though I'm sure the Dursleys are in for a nasty shock) and Severus' growning exasperation and Harry's sullen refusal to except his own shortcomings were very in character.
Sorry about your son: sounds like a nasty accident :(
Another really good chapter with great interaction between the characters; I loved the portrait idea and I think that the scenario you've set up would certainly tug on Harry's heartstrings.
Very interesting chapter; it seems either Harry had finally driven poor Severus over the edge or there's some sort of spell at work here. I'm really enjoying the interaction between the characters; hopefully Harry will push Snape just far enough to reveal his true colours.
