Reviews For Ugly Duckling
Yours happily, Melfis. Author's Response: Thanks ^^ Yes, if you know swans there is something Snapeish about them- they're very independant, feisty and haughty lol! Of course, to Harry, who has battled his relative's dislike, making friends with Snape the Swan doesn't tire his patience or wear away his determination as it would other children.
You have kept the angst understated and yet it comes out more vividly than most other stories. And the premise! It's so original - with a swan. Reminds me of another story that I love - 'Learning to Spell' - ofcourse, the similarity ends with a pond with some birds. You have taken the tale of ugly duckling and turned it into something so beautiful. This is better than what I have read in a long long time. And Ron and Hermione and Hagrid come across so natural! As does Harry, of course. Makes you fall in love with all the characters once again. Fantastic. Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I've always thought that the 'Ugly Duckling' rather related to Harry and Snape's life-paths and, when I got the flash of inspiration to make Snape's Animagus form a swan, I realised that this leitmotif could really work in a short story. I'm glad you liked how I portrayed the characters and thank you for the kind compliments on the story :)
Author's Response: Thanks ^^; I thought that, while a black swan suited Snape's personality and style, it was also quite unusual and fitting, seeing that Snape's life-path is similar to that of the ugly-duckling (in that he starts off as lonely and bedraggled and ends up one of the heroes of the war. I'm glad you enjoyed the book- it seemed a very Snapeish thing to give
Author's Response: Thanks ^^; Bil wanted a bit of Hermione if possible and I thought writing the first chapter as a story within a story would be a good way of achieving this (as well as enabling me to let slip a few details ^^). I thought the swan would be rather recognisable lol: there's something so dramatic about black swans and ol' Sev is nothing if not dramatic!
Author's Response: Thanks ^^. Yes, Amroth Nimrod is certainly more than he seems ;)
I bet 100 house pionts that shadow is really Snapes Animagnus form! Author's Response: Thank's for the review. Yes, black swans are really cute; we have a really friendly pair here and, whenever I walk past the estuary, they waddle up to see me, squeaking happily and swishing their black tails ^^. Why on earth would you think that elegant, poised Shadow, with his oily black feathers and intelligent, penetrating, dark eyes is Snape?!
Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I think 'Shadow' would have been rather miffed to say the least at being associated with a funny, black and orange, magic-casting bear-puppet: amongst other things, Sooty is mute!
Author's Response: Thanks for the review; yes, given Harry's interaction with the boa, I thought he'd be gorgeously cute with a long term pet. You're not the only one who wants to hex the Dursleys ;)
Author's Response: Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying it ^^ |
