Beautifully written, thank you for sharing! Sita Author's Response: Thanks ^^ When I was attempting to think up a proverb for the next installment of 'When the Boat Comes In', the tale of the 'Ugly Duckling' sprung into my mind. Although it wasn't suitable as a title, it did seem a very good concept for my as yet unwritten fic-fest story; as far as animagus forms go, a black swan was very, very apt for Severus and both Severus' and Harry's early lives were rather similar to that of the duckling in the story/song. I'm glad you liked the slow buildup; I was a bit worried about pace but any swan (let alone a Snape-swan) would need a lot of convincing before he allowed Harry Potter into his heart!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. Me too, I feel that Severus is a man who, under that icy exterior, is highly sensitive with strong emotions and a great capacity for love; if Harry managed to melt a bit of the protective barrier around Snape's heart, he would love Harry as dearly as he did Lily (albiet in a paternal way). It's one of the greatest tragedies in the canon, that Snape's heart was left to wither rather than flourish with a wife and/or child of his own and, thus, I enjoy playing around with scenarios where Snape does care for Harry, even if those feelings have to be sacrificed for the greater good.
Author's Response: Thanks ^^. I'm really glad you liked it :)
Author's Response: Thanks for the review ^^; I think this is probably the saddest fic I've written to date (with maybe the exception of 'Faded') but I feel the 'bitter waters' make the fluff taste all the sweeter ;) I'm glad you liked it.
