Reviews For Digging for the Bones
Author's Response: Believe it or not, that was the actual name of the obestetrician who delivered me. My parents lived in Montreal at the time.
I loved the interaction between Severus and Lily, especially the legilimency incident which felt very in character, especially in the light of Snape's background (love how you implied his childhood through little details). Lily's desire to protect James' ego and grant him the heir he longs for is very believable and natural, as is her desire to concieve with a friend, in a loving act; there are a lot of old rumours about a certain member of the current Royal family's paternity due to this very issue! I really love the strength and vulnerability you've interwoven in her character, it echos Snape's own strength/vulnerability in a subtle but discenable way. I also love the youthfulness of both characters; you can tell that Snape is younger but he's still in character enough. (Oh, and his rough accent is a rather endearing element of the fiery, sweet, strong but slightly uncertain young man you've depicted.) Author's Response: Thank you. Yes, Snape has always reminded me a bit of Heathcliff. It just seemed like it was one of the guilty pleasures he might induldge him--and I think LP's probably work for wizards where CD's might not. Poor Sev couldn't imagine any other reason for Lily to show up at his house than James was beating her up. So sad. Many of the old aristocratic families have these rumors around them, and closed gene pools tend to get peculiar problems. My father spent many, many hours with a tape recorder trying to get rid of his millworker accent. He ended up with an accent almost like Richard Burton's (they both came from the same region of Wales) and it was a point of pride.
Author's Response: Thank you!
Well done scene, much better than the usual. Very inventive and very in character. I like Snape's accent, and how his older self disliked it so much when he heard the younger speaking. Great descriptions. I think that you did a great job on the chapter. Hope we get back to Harry soon! Thanks for the update! Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, back to Harry next!
Author's Response: Thank you
Author's Response: It's coming, it's coming!
And I also loved the "still (best friends)?", "still" quote. I always hoped their last encounter wasn't the fallout at Hogwarts. Also nice to see an alternative interpretation of Sev's love for Lily. It should be interesting what folks at Hogwarts will learn about Harry's history now. Update soon! Author's Response: I just always felt that unrequited love was not enough of a reason for Severus' devotion to Lily. I wanted something deeper here--I'm not really a romantic and carrying a torch for somone for all those years after their death seems sad. I'm glad you like the different take.
Author's Response: Nobody likes to be rushed ;) |
