Yay!!Such a good and sad chapter. Sev you punk!!! Lily... ...... >.> We'll see how much I hate you or not later.. Kenai.. Stop being a jerk!! For future chapters.. Hmmm.. I kinda want to see Sev find or start to become suspicious of Harry's upbringing.. And perhaps with the weight of everything perhaps Harry will have reached a breaking point, and become depressed, or perhaps a little broken and Sev will start to realize what an affect he's made on his son.. ^^; Sorry.. I just love angst and guilt trips. lol Of course I want a happy ending in the end too.

I imagine to some extent that Harry terrifies Kenai. I don't know whether Kenai is Snape's biological child or not, but he must have questions because the story Snape told would have made me wonder about my biological origins, at least as I got older. Even though that shouldn't make a difference to how much Snape loves him, if it isn't confirmed by him he might have some insecurities. Even if he doesn't, here is this child who, for all intents and purposes, is his brother, and his father appears to hate him while he hasn't actually done anything wrong. It must make Kenai wonder if there is something he could do that might make their father hate him. Harry represents the idea that their father could hate one of his sons and to distance himself from that possibility, he bullies him out of fear. At least, that's my opinion.

It's somewhat different from the Dudley vs. Harry situation because Harry is different in a way Dudley could never be, so he would never have to worry about that. There is also the fact that Petunia and Vernon had no qualms about being demonstrative with their love, while Snape, who I'm quite sure loves Kenai, probably doesn't smother his son with hugs and kisses.

Snape might think his parenting methods aren't so bad when he realize that Harry's obedience is an ingrained result of years of systematic abuse.

I see that one of the warnings for this story is corporal punishment. I hope that isn't a central theme because I just don't enjoy reading about it and it weirds me out a bit. This is no reflection on your writing, just my personal opinion because of how I was raised.

Author's Response: The corporal punishment warning was for Umbridge and her nasty blood quill.  We won't really be seeing or hearing about the Durlseys and there will be no spanking or anything.

I really liked both chapter 5 and 6--even though I just wanted to strangle Sev for that "detention" coment. Still want to shake him a bit to be completely truthful. I hope that the "link" between them can be useful in finding the boy.

Nice work showing survival skills in the snow-BTW.

    Thanks for both updates.

interesting. it's nice to see some of their backstory. i really liked chapter 5. you did a good job of portraying harry's emotions when snape turned his back on him. i also liked seeing the scene from a different pov here. i am a little confused about the time line. if lily didn't leave until harry was several months old, how are harry and kenai in the same year? i thought you said in an earlier chapter that they were only 3 months apart. even if snape took up with kenai's mother immediately and she got pregnant immediately (as in the night lily left, which doesn't seem like snape), they would be at least a year apart, and harry is already one of the youngest in his year.

Author's Response: You haven't asked yet why Lily left Severus, because theirn lies your answer to how Harry and Kenai are only three months apart.  This is something we'll get into later in the story of course.

I like your statement at the top 'Remember, Severus is human, and therefore can be in error all he wants." I would also like for this humanness to be applied to Harry - he is human and can be resentful, hurt, and aloof all he wants. I want Snape (both of them) to fight for the right to be Harry's family - not just for them to say sorry and all is forgiven. Harry needs to see that he is worth the effort. Otherwise what’s to prevent a relapse on the Snapes part and an aloof or contentious relationship on Harry’s?

Actually I do have a question; I think you said that Kenai was 3-months younger then Harry. How if Lily left him when Harry was 2 months, are they that close in age? Is Kenai really his, or did Severus have an affair and marry her later?
Also, I think Severus should probably act conflicted around him, and honestly I think Harry should start becoming distant.

Author's Response: Infedelity is your answer, but you're not supposed to know that yet.  Props for guessing right though.  This will be covered later in the book.

I think snape should start to be nice to him.
Is Snape every going to read Harry's journal?
I think maybe that would be a good way for Snape to unerstand him.
    Maybe not, though....
    Great job!
