Reviews For Through a Glass, Darkly
and Albsu crying thank you for actually givign him emotions. I think it made what Harry went through that much more powerful Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked Dumbledore's emotional moment - I like him very much as a character, and I'm glad I managed to show that he isn't indifferent to Harry's suffering. Thank you for reviewing!
I am finding Petunia and Vernon so compelling in your story. It's a horrible mix of despising them and feeling sorry for them. I am really feeling Petunia's conflict between fear of Harry and an instinctive desire to not let a child be injured. I am half reminded of Carole Burnette in Annie, when the kidnapping plot goes to far for her loose code of ethics and she turns on her co-conspiritors. I like their complexity, I enjoy feeling conflicted about how I feel about a character and it makes them three dimensional. They are often characters that are portrayed as having only one side, so it makes a compelling change. It's an exciting and fresh take on the Slytherin Harry concept. I can't wait for the next part. Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, I was really surprised when you guessed correctly about the exorcism (and it was very tempting to give spoilers just then, but I'm glad I resisted!) Thank you so much for the feedback on Vernon and Petunia. The Dursleys are great fun when they're written with a slightly ironic undertone, like in the books, and I found it very challenging to make their fears and prejudices "real" and understandable. I'm so glad you think it worked! Thank you very much for the feedback, I hope you'll continue to enjoy the story!
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, Harry hasn't had much of a childhood - until now, that is. The next chapter will be up soon!
Author's Response: I'll hold him for you (the priest, I mean)! I'm glad you liked the chapter, and you're very welcome about the chapter note; I'm glad I didn't come across as discriminating, because that really wasn't my intention. Thank you very much for reviewing!
Author's Response: Yes, poor Harry; it's good he has Snape and his friends. I'm glad you liked the chapter, thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Author's Response: I know what you mean. Thank you for reviewing!
Author's Response: *Brrr* was the reaction I was going for, so thank you! I'm glad you liked the chapter!
you should feel very proud of this piece. I cant wait for the next part, I want to know what happens next. I don't THINK I have ever rated a story 10 before, (I could be wrong but I don't remember it), there is a first time for everything! Author's Response: Wow, thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter so much, and I'm very flattered that my story's the first to get a 10 rating from you! Hope you continue to enjoy it!
Author's Response: Thank you very much! Yes, magic and Christianity is a loaded subject, and I'll admit I was a bit nervous about the reactions I'd get - I'm glad you think it worked! I find it fascinating how many people these days are still afraid of magic, to the point where they'll burn books - or undergo exorcisms. I did some research for this chapter, and I must say I was shocked to find how common such rituals still are today. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying my story, thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Tough read, but well done. Thanks for the update! V. Author's Response: Thank you! |
