Reviews For Through a Glass, Darkly
Brilliantly done.
Author's Response: Thank you!
Author's Response: Hehe, well, let's just say Harry has a talent for staying alive...
So much pathos here with Dumbledore and Snape. It is fascinating to see Dumbledore faced with an impossible dilemma -- he MUST act, no matter how horrible the consequence. I really liked how you set up the scene so that, logically, there is only one possible choice he CAN make (while the emotional choice is quite the opposite). I also liked that Snape "got" Dumbledore's choice and the reasoning, even if is devastating to him. War destroys, in big ways and in small. I do hope you don't allow Snape or the others to vilify Dumbledore too much, as you have every opportunity to continue to deepen his character. Having to make "adult" choices sucks, yet who does Dumbledore represent if not the closest thing in the HP world to a reliable father figure? It would make him much more two-dimensional to make him into the "badie" -- it is much more interesting to see him being a good guy making tough choices. Anyway, I am ranting, but it is only because the quality of your story has made me invested in the characters! :) ...Well, that and the fact that I'm a total literature geek! Thanks again for taking the time to write and post this piece. I look forward to more. Author's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review - it's wonderful to hear your thoughts on my story. I'm glad you think Dumbledore's decision made sense; I think underneath his benign exterior, Dumbledore can be quite harsh towards himself and others (that's the impression I get from canon, at least). He is indeed the father figure of the HP world, and while many of the other supposedly adult wizards and witches really have quite childlike souls, I never felt that way about Dumbledore. Some fics make him into a completely coldhearted dictator figure, but I could never see him that way; I think he's actually one of the most complex characters in HP. Anyway :)... I'm really flattered by what you said about by story and writing, so thank you very much! I hope you'll enjoy the upcoming chapters, as well.
Author's Response: Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
Author's Response: Sorry for the sad ending... the new chapter's up, though :)!
Give Sita Z a chance. At least some signs seem to be pointing to "Harry is not really dead." Author's Response: Thank you, I appreciate it!
V. Author's Response: I knew you'd be mad at Dumbledore (you didn't like him casting his "Protelo" spell, either!) :)! I can promise you he'll have to deal with the consequences of his actions. Thank you very much for reviewing, I'm glad you liked Snape's reaction!
Author's Response: I understand what you mean, and I'm sorry you were upset after reading the last chapter. I hope you'll continue reading the story - maybe the new chapter (up now) will change your mind! BTW, I'm quite aware there's no "character death" warning; that was quite intentional. Thank you for reviewing!
Author's Response: I'm afraid Harry's dead... and yet he may surprise everyone again... thank you for reviewing! |
