Reviews For Through a Glass, Darkly
Author's Response: Hehe, well, let's just say Harry has a talent for staying alive...
Author's Response: Thank you!
Author's Response: Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
Author's Response: That is, of course, your prerogative, and I’m sorry you felt offended. I can only repeat what I said in my author’s note and several review replies: No discrimination against any faith in particular was implied. Where I live, the majority of the population is Catholic, so most of my friends are Catholic (though I myself am not), I’ve been to Catholic services and know about Catholic tradition. It would be hard for me to be prejudiced against something I know so well, and I have no reason to be. The thing is, “Exorcism” wasn’t about Catholicism, but about religious fanaticism. Father Pius is a fanatic, and true fanatics of any religion will do the most cruel things, believing them to be “God’s will”. That is something that troubles me deeply, and that is what I had in mind when I wrote the chapter. You see enough of this when you look around in the world, and I’m sorry you felt offended, but I think it’s something that should be addressed, even if it may be a touchy subject with many people. Sorry about the rant; I didn’t mean to come across as rude, and I’m honestly sorry that “Exorcism” spoiled the story for you. In any case, thank you for letting me know.
Author's Response: Good guess there :)! I'm glad you're enjoying the story, thank you for letting me know!
Author's Response: Thank you very much!
Thanks for the update :-) V. Author's Response: Thank you, and you're very welcome :)!
Great chapter. Author's Response: Thank you! I think, for Harry, it was like having a very vivid dream... thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I've loved your possessed Harry, he was truly creepy. I'm assuming if Harry's coming back to life there'll be some kind of happy resolution. That's always nice, but not at all what I thought you were going for, lol. Awesome fic, keep up the good work. =) Author's Response: Yes, I know what you mean - sometimes a fic that leaves everyone quite desperate packs the greatest punch, so I can understand that you were a little disappointed to find that this one won't. The problem is that I usually get quite fond of the characters when I write a longer story, and killing one of them off is something I haven't managed to do yet. Maybe in a future fic, who knows :)! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
So much pathos here with Dumbledore and Snape. It is fascinating to see Dumbledore faced with an impossible dilemma -- he MUST act, no matter how horrible the consequence. I really liked how you set up the scene so that, logically, there is only one possible choice he CAN make (while the emotional choice is quite the opposite). I also liked that Snape "got" Dumbledore's choice and the reasoning, even if is devastating to him. War destroys, in big ways and in small. I do hope you don't allow Snape or the others to vilify Dumbledore too much, as you have every opportunity to continue to deepen his character. Having to make "adult" choices sucks, yet who does Dumbledore represent if not the closest thing in the HP world to a reliable father figure? It would make him much more two-dimensional to make him into the "badie" -- it is much more interesting to see him being a good guy making tough choices. Anyway, I am ranting, but it is only because the quality of your story has made me invested in the characters! :) ...Well, that and the fact that I'm a total literature geek! Thanks again for taking the time to write and post this piece. I look forward to more. Author's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review - it's wonderful to hear your thoughts on my story. I'm glad you think Dumbledore's decision made sense; I think underneath his benign exterior, Dumbledore can be quite harsh towards himself and others (that's the impression I get from canon, at least). He is indeed the father figure of the HP world, and while many of the other supposedly adult wizards and witches really have quite childlike souls, I never felt that way about Dumbledore. Some fics make him into a completely coldhearted dictator figure, but I could never see him that way; I think he's actually one of the most complex characters in HP. Anyway :)... I'm really flattered by what you said about by story and writing, so thank you very much! I hope you'll enjoy the upcoming chapters, as well. |
