Aww this was a sweet chapter too. Much sad that Sev has to hold up a reputation but such is life.

"Give it a wave," Snape suggested, then immediately grabbed Harry's moving arm to direct the wand's tip AWAY from Snape. "THAT way, Potter, if you please." HAHAHAHAHAHA I rolled with laughter there!

Author's Response: Hey, it may be Lily's wand & Harry may share magic with it, BUT... Remembering Ollivander's-- I just couldn't resist! Harry's attention was completely focused on the Potions MASTER, so he'd naturally point the wand directly at Snape! Snape is full Slytherin when it comes to ALL types of survival skills! Hee! :-)

    You MUST do a sequel!

    Author's Response:

*gulps* Um... MUST I? Quite honestly, I hadn't planned on it at all! And I've had to tell that to SO MANY readers already! Still, I really consider it a compliment that you believe that it's worthy of a sequel-- WOW! I had no idea that the story would get the response that it has!

As I've said to others hoping for a sequel, I won't say "never", but I don't see it happening any time soon. I have several other WIP's that I'd like to finish, and given than I HADN'T planned on continuing this story, I'd have to do a lot of brainstorming to come up with a fresh approach to Snape-mentors-Slytherin-Harry-in-lion's-clothing. I'd hoped that my idea about setting this story in the Hut would be original, but I'm not sure I could do a sequel justice after the story moved to Hogwarts. I'd hate to build up readers' expectations, only for the sequel to fall flat on its face. :-{  Like I said, I won't say "never", but don't hold your breath!

But MANY MANY MANY thanks for reading and reviewing! So GLAD you enjoyed it!!!  :-D

    Shadow,
I love this story. My only complaint is that it ended too soon. I love your take on Harry here. He's such a curious boy with a craving for knowledge. I'd love to know what happens later in this little AU you created. Who becomes Harry's guardian? I really hope it's Snape. Harry definitely has a little hero worshiping going with Snape. It's rather adorable. It's a wonderful story, and I hope that maybe they'll be a sequel?

    Author's Response:

    Hi, Ella!

Thanks for reading and reviewing, but I'm afraid you'll be disappointed to learn that I never really intended to take the story beyond this point.

I wanted to do something original, and since I'd never seen the Hut on the Rock used as a central setting in a fanfic, I decided to have Snape rescue Harry from the Hut after he'd been abandoned. In their own ways, each of them has gotten to "know" the other before they meet (Snape through the evidence he found at the Dursleys, and Harry through his daydreams of who he WANTED Snape to be after seeing his picture), and they build on that briefly before Harry really gets his First Year underway.

As for a sequel, I won't say never, but I don't see it happening in the near future. I'd have to do some long, serious thinking about how to deal with their relationship to come up with something fresh. A lot of fics deal with Snape mentoring Harry, and I don't know how to approach it with originality while Harry is in school. (The interlude at the Hut made it so EASY in comparison!)

But MANY thanks once again for reading! So glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for taking the time to tell me so!

uh oh snape's on a warpath and the dursley's are on the top of his list. Along with Dumbybore. Great job!

    Author's Response:

    Hmmm...

I have to say it-- I'd somehow thought SOMEONE would have caught the intended HUMOR in this chapter. But then, that's the main reason I NEVER put "humor" as a genre in the story description-- Stuff I think is funny just falls completely FLAT, huh, autumn???

But thanks for the compliment!  ;-D

*gasps* *stares at the screen* you...you...you...SHOT HAGRID?!?!!? Great job as usual.

    Author's Response:

*ahem* Did you see "character death" among the Warnings??? Were you FOOLED??? Hee Hee!!! Yes, poor Hagrid had to get shot in order for the Dursleys to leave Harry behind on the Rock. Seriously-- If they'd left as planned, Harry would have returned to Surrey with them! So, in order for the plot to take off, poor Hagrid... But I COULDN'T KILL HIM!!!! NOT HAGRID!!!

I don't know how readers actually "experienced" that scene. Since I wrote it, I KNEW Hagrid would survive to be rescued, but I wanted readers to be shocked at Vernon's madness reaching a crisis. Who was it who said, If there's a gun on stage, it has to go off? (Ibsen? Somebody I studied my sophomore year in college...) Well, the shotgun had to go off, and I suppose the readers got a SERIOUS jolt! One person told me she was so worried that Harry might get shot that she'd forgotten about Hagrid!

    But onward with the PLOT...

awww some "holiday" well, it isn't one, but you get the jist.Great job as usual!

Author's Response: The-Holiday-That-Really-Wasn't, huh?! They certainly managed to get away from it all ... except for the owls, that is! Thanks for the review!

Awww another great chapter! Poor Harry having a cladestine birthday...awww

Author's Response: Well, at least he's not locked in his cupboard for this one! He actually has roast beef and a crusty roll! And a bit of cake! And dinner candles to WISH on! (That's the most important element of this special day...)

Oh shadow, I'm loving it! " Cauldrons lined the back wall, scrubbed to dull gleaming, ready to produce the first disaster of the new school year." haha you caught severus's personality to a t

Author's Response: Yeah, I had to go with canon Snape in the beginning, and he was fun to write, but there are surprises in store for our fave Potions Master!

What a wonderful tale. Thank you ever so much for sharing it with us.

I enjoyed each and every chapter and am so glad that Wands mentioned it in the Shout Box.

I think you did a great job of keeping both Harry and Snape in character while still allowing them a chance to (privately) build on the... whatever it was... that started in the hut.

I can't really call it a friendship, but a mutual respect and understanding will work I guess.

    Author's Response:

    CeeCeeMee,

I really want to thank you for taking the time to review throughout the entire story, instead of just leaving a single review at the end, like many people tend to. (And I can't really complain, because I've been guilty of that, too, in the past, but I'll be more aware of what it means to other writers now, since this is my first story on the site with more than 1-2 chapters!) I enjoyed seeing the specific parts that you responded to in each chapter!

Oh, yes!!! I am so grateful to Wands, too-- "Hut" got bumped from the Most Recent box in less than 12 hours, so I know I got more readers because of his and OE's and your comments in the Shoutbox! MANY MANY MANY THANKS!!!
