changed my mind, listening to the lyrics of "The River" and I don't think it fits.

Author's Response: Heh, Iris by Goo Goo Dolls.  In this case the song fits this particular chapter.... sometimes I just like a lyric or rewrite a lyric of a song to fit my purposes, lol.  I don't do this for every story but this one in particular I'm trying to keep in the theme of songs for titles.

I just read the four chapters posted today and this story is off to a great start. I'm curious to find out exactly who Snape is in this one-- clearly he's very prejudiced, but I'm hoping he's not completely irrational. His treatment of Harry has been rather harsh-- it's one thing not to care about someone's pain, but another to not be concerned about a near death expereince (the lung injury) of a child in your care. I'm begining to think that this Snape just considers abuse to be normal, since he has seen two cases of severe abuse and he doesn't really seem surprized or repulsed. If Harry had broken ribs and Draco was "ten times worse" then Draco must have been beaten enough to suffer some organ damage at least-- which means that the injuries were probably life threatening as well. I appreciate that the author doesn't believe in revenge, but there should be some steps taken to make sure that neither boy end up in Sirius's care again at least. I'm sure he wouldn't mind tarring Sirius's reputation with Dumbledore in any case.

Author's Response: There's no need to worry about them ending up in Sirius' care again... trust me, there will be a big angsty moment with Dumbledore and Harry will take care of some things.  Also there will be something very important involving Sirius at some point in the story and Harry and Draco will no longer have to worry about him.

I do hope that Draco will get it through to Snape about just how bad Harry's injuries were--the ones that Snape wouldn't even look at. The bootprint alone should have been cause for alarm, much less everything else.

I have a feeling that when Snape finally does get the details about what really happened to Harry after he sent Draco off on the broom, the professor is going to be eating a bit of crow concerning his assumptions about Harry.

I look forward to the next chapter. I really would like to see what would happen if Sirius showed up at Hogwarts now. While I don't want to see Harry injured by Sirius again, it would certainly open Snape's eyes to just how toxic the relationship btween godfather and godson has become.

And I do like your Draco. It's so nice to see him demonstrating compassion and a new, apparently honest friendship with Harry.
I am rather appalled at Dumbledore for just dumping Draco at Grimmaud Place like he did. Not right at all. I think that Dumbledore needs to have Wizarding Social Services cite him for neglect and for putting the boys into a life threatening situation (and for more than once for Harry!). And Sirius Black needs to go back to Azkaban for what he's done to both boys, as far as I'm concerned. He's become a sociopath, and, in a way, I'm not surprised. In canon, he seems selfish and self-centered, too focused on what he wants. Yes, he broke out of Azkaban, but it wasn't to help Harry, it was to find Pettigrew. Even to the end of his life, Black never seemed to care that he'd nearly caused Severus to be murdered and that he'd put Remus at risk for execution. (In fact, I still don't understand how Remus could still be friends with Sirius after that!)

I really want to see a confrontation between Snape and Black--of words, wands or fists--that would be good!

Good luck on the future chapters. :) I'l be watching for them.

Wow, I'm amazed at how well and touching you portrayed Harry's and Snape's feelings, especially Harry's hurt. I want more, please!! As I said before interaction between Harry and Snape is really exciting and now that the proverbial stone started rolling I cannot wait to read more!!

If Harry were to actually break down, I think I would like for Draco to find him and fetch Snape. And maybe, if Severus is still thinking this is all a fluke Draco could have a few choice words with his uncle to make him understand. That isn't to say that any positive development bewteen Harry and Snape has to be/ should be rushed.
Weew, enough rambling on my part, your Melfis.
