I was surprised Sirius didn't go as a dog. He could sniff out the locations of buried people with his nose.
I'm anxiously awaiting the next chapter to see how they get Harry and Neville to safety. And also who else survived.
This came across as very realistic to me. Also, I'm amused by Minerva's "The only others we've evacuated so far are the Slytherins and that's because Severus rescued them himself."
Heh! "we" indeed! Severus knows that he's the only one who does anything for the Slytherins, and if he didn't see them rescued, no one would. (Shades of DH2 movie comes to mind - locking Slytherins in the dungeons so they can't participate in the battle.)
Also, I'm not really surprised that the students can't immediately lay their hands on their wands after the massive shaking. They're still learning, and don't have “constant vigilance” on the mind yet, as it's early in the war for them.
In case you can't tell, I'm enjoying this story very much!

Hey, good story. I can't wait to read more! Just thought I'd let you know that after Ron told Neville not to move, you wrote that Neville nodded. With a possible spine injury, you'd probably not want him doing that.
man that sucks. You better not let him die. I will not be upset with you but man that would be one heck of a turn of events. Lets hope neville is not paralyzed and Harry doesn't bleed to death.
Interesting so far. Can't wait for more.
Oh no, poor Harry! Maybe they could get Madam Pomfrey to fly up if they can find her? I hope Harry and Neville are okay. I liked how to the point Snape was with everyone.
