This was a great read, and Snape’s last line was spot on.
I know this is literally three years late, but that was brilliant.

It is called enlightened pessimism.
Things could be worse and they probably will be and if the worse doesn't happen, then I am happy for a while but if the worst happens then I am prepared and righteous in my knowledge that I knew the worst would happen.
That is my philosophy and I am sticking to it. It has served me well for 65 years.

Short, but a nice comparison between their childhoods and on their outlooks on life. It was also well written, so good job.
By the way, you could just shorten the title to, "Could Have Been Better." I think the shorter title may be more appealing to potential readers.
