Reviews For A Christmas Gamble

You certainly can set a scene. The short glow in the Great Hall, the sound of snow falling (it's a soft hiss) makes me feel as though I'm there with the characters. I also enjoyed the Father Christmas memories of Harry and Ron. For some reason, Ron's seemed especially poignant.

Author's Response: Hey bridgeportfox! Thank you so much for your kind words! I really enjoyed setting the scene in this story, as you probably were able to tell. Wordplay is one of the things that just makes my heart sing. The story of Ron's Christmas surprise was one that just came so naturally to me as I wrote it, and was not overly planned at all. It just seemed to fit so well with canon, and overall, fits well with the hopes of children in real life. I have been blessed enough to have a home and enough food to eat growing up, and that is not something everyone is given, sadly. Sure, I grew up in boyish hand-me downs from my older brother and the bycicles I rode had gone through the neighbors' four children then my own brother before I got them, but it was never that much of a hardship (although I did sometimes wish for a fancy bycicle like my friends had, with no rust, sparkling paint and pretty tassles!). I cannot imagine being a child and knowing that Christmas is only for those who can afford it, and I suppose I wanted to bring light to that through sharing Ron's experience. Thanks so much for the review!

I really liked the opening tale of Father Christmas. Asking the house elves to help make toys was a natural. I like the way you worked in Harry and Severus at the end, too.

Author's Response: It is fantastic to hear you enjoyed the prologue! The transition was a bit tough though, so it is good you liked how Harry and Severus were worked in. In the rough draft of this story, there was no prologue, so I am glad it was appreciated. Cheers!

Awesome! I love the way you taught both (Severus and Harry) of them a little about the other one.

Author's Response: Hey, thanks for reviewing, Twonky! I am glad you enjoyed Harry's and Severus' realizations about each other. Cheers!

Haha, this was a great little story. I loved it. ROTFL, I simply loved the fact that Sev asked, "Who do I look like, Father Christmas?" AND HE IS HIM NOW. HAHA, that's just too funny. Really cute little story. I wish Harry and Sev a great many more Christmases.

Author's Response: The last line actually came to me almost the second the idea hit. It was sort of what inspired the story, and then I had to figure out a believable plotline to make things end where they did! I am so glad you thought it was funny, Anthezar, because I think I laughed a little more at my own joke  than I should have ... Anyway, thank you so much for the review and laughter!

That was delightful. I never would have read something of this description if it wasn't by a writer I liked. Harry and Snape fill in for Father Christmas? Crack syrup, right? But no! You made the premise believable, and hit a good balance with the complexities of Snape's bitterness and Harry's pride.

Thank you! I'm home with a head cold and this was a perfect cozy read. :-)

Author's Response: Wow, thank you GatewayGirl! I am glad that you had faith enough in my writing to convince you to read this insane idea! Believe me, when I first came up with the premise I was wondering how on earth I could make it believable. I tried really hard to make it that way, so I am glad you feel I passed the test. Crack syrup ... haha, I like that. This idea does fit that bill, doesn't it? Nice to know I helped make your evening cozy considering you have a cold. Get better soon!  Oh, and I would definitely recommend making some ginger lemon tea with lots of honey (good for sore throat, cough, and sinuses I have found) - there should be a recipe somewhere online. You can buy teabags of the stuff in stores, but it doesn't take long to boil yourself, and is so good homemade provided you have ginger root/powder, lemons, and honey! Best of wishes, Whitetail.

Hah, didn't Snape enjoy making use of Tobias' bed like that. These deliveries seem to be bringing out the best of him too.

Author's Response: Yes, I think he was far too stoked for that ... but yes, all for the best! Great to hear your thoughts!

Stupid Muggles, building obstacles. Snape and Harry seem to beginning to work together, but what secrets will Spinners End let escape?

Author's Response: Ah, what secrets indeed? Thanks for reviewing, rosina!
